ovarian cyst while pregnant

I am 13wks pregnant, and have a 10cm cyst on my right ovary. The doctor said it would be okay, and they have done very well about checking it every doc appointment I have had. They recently found out that the cyst has gotten larger, and believe that the best solution is to get the cyst drained by putting a needle down through my stomach to the cyst and draining it. It makes me very nerves because all I can think about is they will hit the baby and hurt it. If anyone has had this done can you please reassure me that it will be okay. Everyone keeps saying it will, but they have not went through it to know all the risk....

i had the same cyst..mine was the size of a tennis ball i believe is the way the doc described it. she said that she would just check it often. and said at about 12 weeks in most cases the cyst go away on their own. and they do serve a purpose. they release certain hormones to help keep the baby going. it did cause me a bit of pain for about 2 to  weeks. i had such severe back pain i couldnt sit stand walk lay down, and it even hurt to breath. she just gave me some meds to help with the pain and at about 12 weeks the cyst was gone. i think the small number where the cyst doesnt go away it can wrap around the ovary and cut off oxygen to it. so she just told me to take it easy and dont do a lot of crazy exercise or anything. and that if the pain became unbearable that she would get it removed. but everything came out fine! good luck!

I agree with megmil, cysts usually should reduce in size and go away on it's own. If they get larger it will start hurting you. Doctors will do a good job in removing the cyst and it will not hurt your baby.

Uasually cysts while pregnant are fine. However if they get larger, they must do something about it. Sometimes you develop a cyst which gives the baby nutrients until the placenta attaches to the uterus (that's what my doc told me when I had one). However they are supposed to get smaller and go away. If it's growing they have to do something about it. It could rupture and cause you problems, especially if it's filled with blood. I'm sure they will use appropriate measures to make sure they do not hit the baby. You just have to trust you doctor. DId you ask your doctor about all the possible risks?????? You may be able to find something on the internet.....I don't know but I'm sure you will be alright. It would be best for you. If it's filled with blood and ruptures you will have internal bleeding which is fatal.
