possible miscarriage

i'm looking to see if anyone has experienced anything similar to this and if so what was the outcome, here is what is going on. My last period was 01/05/12. I confirmed on 02/03 that i was pregnant. at 5 weeks pregnant i had one day of really light pinkish spotting and so i called the doctor and they decided that they wanted to test my hcg levels. I went in for my first blood test on 02/13 and my level was 1500, then i went in on 02/15 and had it redone and my level went up to 3200 which is good, it more than doubled in 48 hours. on 02/16 i went in for my first ultrasound, they couldn't see much at that point besides a sac because it was early but from their measurements they said that i was measuring at 5 weeks 2 days when i was 6 weeks from my last period. They said that it was not a big deal and that it was only 5 days difference from which i have heard from other people is quite common. they had me come back 8 days later on 02/24 for another scan because they are trying to determine viability of my pregnancy since i just had a miscarriage back in november, at 7 weeks 1 day i was measuring 6 weeks and 3 days which is right on track from my last measurement and they could see the sac and a yolk. then they said that because they weren't able to see the baby that i would have to come back for another scan in 10 days. They had me come back on 03/05 which was 8 weeks and 4 days and i measured at 7 weeks and 6 days which is still right on track from the last scan, still 5 days behind but still growing they could still see a sac and a yolk. They still were unable to see a baby at this point or a heartbeat and so they told me that my pregnancy is not viable and that i am going to have a miscarriage and that it should start in the next couple of weeks. the doctor told me that it would probably be best if i could do it naturally without a d&c and i agreed. He scheduled an appointment for me to follow back up with him in 3 weeks on 03/21. In one of my previous scans the tech told me that i do have a tilted uterus. I have not had any pain or bleeding and i still feel very pregnant. They haven't tried to retest my hcg levels to see if they are still going up or if they are dropping, i feel as though i am being thrown to the wind with no answers or direction. Do you think it is possible that i could still have a viable pregnancy and they are just unable to see the baby yet because my uterus is tilted? Has anyone else gone through something similar only to find out that the doctors are wrong and they did have a viable pregnancy? Any answers or suggestions as to what i should do would be greatly appreciated or if you could share a similar story with the outcome whether it is good or bad would be appreciated as well. sorry this is so long.

You are still early on and it is possible to miss a heartbeat and pick it up on a later date. But at some point if there is not heartbeat and baby seen then you know it is not viable. I went through a situation similar to yours almost a year ago. I kept going back to the Dr. every week to get a new U/S. They only took blood a couple of times 2 or 3 X I think and it didn't double like yours did. In the U/S a baby did not show up and either did a Heartbeat. It is good that the Dr. is having you come back in 3 weeks, because in that amount of time a baby and H/B should be visible on U/S and if its not then it is not a viable pregnancy. I kept waiting but eventually I could even see it was not viable and I elected to get a D&C. I hope everything goes well for you.

Just the fact that our bodies can make other lives is a miracle. I think anything before 9 weeks is too early to say you're not having a viable pregnancy. I have not had a miscarriage tho. My friend was told over and over that she was not pregnant. They wanted to give her meds to start her period nd she said no, because she just knew in her mind/heart that she was. Sure enough, a few weeks later she tested positive.
Go with your gut instinct. Anything is possible. You don't want to get your hopes up too much, but life is a miracle and no one can explain it sometimes.
Good luck!

thank you, i was thinking if i still haven't started bleeding by the time i have my follow up i am going to request another scan and maybe bloodwork because by then i should be 11 weeks if it was viable and the uterus should be almost straight by then.

Its possible.  Also ultrasound equipment in drs offices is not very good so it makes it hard to see and may be even harder to see with a tilted uterus.  I would have another scan in a week or two to be sure.  Good luck hope it all works out.
