pregnancy with IUD---Help!!

Okay, I don't want to sound like an idiot, but I have a few questions. I have a Mirena IUD and I have had it for 3 years in January. I can still feel the "strings" when I check it, so I don't think it has "slipped" or "shifted". I don't have a monthly cycle and have not had a real period since January of '06. (that is the last REAL one i can remember aside from the ocasional spotting or discharge) My question is has anyone one here experienced pregnancy while using the Mirena IUD? I did a lot of research on it and I know that ectopic pregnancy is a big deal and is very possible if you get pregnant with the Mirena. I have been having pregnancy symptoms for about 2-3 weeks now. (I have a two year old and i am experiencing a lot of the same symptoms i had when i found out i was pregnant with him) I did a hpt on Wednesday and the result was negative. If the symptoms don't subside i will retest in a week or so and also call my doc for a blood test. Really, i am just curious if anyone has had a successful pregnancy in the circumstance i am in. I am very ready to start trying for "number 2" but my husband and i were putting it off a bit longer, but if i am pregnant we would both be exstatic!! i would hate to find out i am pregnant just to have to "terminate" (i hate that word) the pregnancy when i am capable and willing to love and care for the child!!! any help would be great...sorry, i am just rambling, i have a million thoughts running through my head!!!

we do want to have another child, but we are in the middle of buying an house and want to wait until we are settled and get my two year old "ready" for the transition to be a big brother!! working with him on potty training, moving and learning all this stuff about buying a home is a little overwhelming so that is why we decided to wait. dont get me wrong, if it happens, it is obviously a sign. my symptoms are slowly going away, so i am sure that i am not preggo *i think*. and since two hpt's have been negative i am going to rely on those for now. i called my doc yesterday and he said to give it another week and see if things change, if not to call him and come in for a blood test. he said often times the hormones in the iud can cause a false negative, but not multiple false negatives and i have alredy had two so he said i am most likeley not pregnant. he knows how bad i am having "baby fever" and agrees that i could be "manifesting" the symptoms of pregnancy or this could be the normal time i would recieve my period, if i had one. so we will just watch and wait from here for another week or so. i will keep yall updated if you want me to. i am now a member of this forum even though i dont think i am pregnant, but i think i can help with questions for other pregnant mothers!! thanks for all your time ladies!!

It would be very rare that you are pregnant with the Mirena, however you should go to the Dr. to get checked out and maybe have the IUD removed to start trying to conceive if that is what you want.  If you are pregnant with the IUD removal of the IUD could cause a miscarriage and leaving it there could cause complications during your pregnancy so it would be a very difficult choice with no absolute outcome either way.
I would say, be safe, go to your doctor, if you are pregnant then talk to your Dr. about possible conplications.  If you are not pregnant, get it removed  wait a couple of cycles so your body "cleans" itself from the hormones and start trying to get pregnant.

thanks girls. i took the first test on wednesday and it was -. took the second one yesterday and it was also -. i am not going to worry unless the symptoms continue. i am also thinking it could be in my head....one of my bff's is preggo and maybe i am going through the symptoms with her?

Anything is possible!!! If you've been having symptoms for as long as you've stated, take a pregnancy test. If it's negative, re-take one in three days!

The chances are your are NOT pregnant considering the Mirena is more effective then a tubal, but I guess it would be possible.  I had the Mirena before I got pregnant and had strange symptons when I stopped breastfeeding, so there could be something else causing it.  I wouldn't wait to see your doctor though if you think it might be a possibility.  Good luck.
