Hi. I'm right there with ya too! I have a SIL who is a Labor & Delivery nurse and she advised me to get "The Patch", so I did, and it helped A LOT, and trust me I AM A SMOKER through and through.lol  HOWEVER, quitting was mandatory for me. I just couldn't see doing that to a Baby. ALSO, I have more of a hand to mouth addiction so, I know this is going to sound silly but, I got online and ordered an artificial cigarrette from EZ-Quit.com and that was probably the best(and safest) $19.99 I EVER spent!!! Good Luck, we all know how tough it is. . > hang in there... this too shall pass.... =)

my first was also unplanned and i too was a smoker.  i actually smoked like up to a pack and a half a day (i went out a lot at night!).  i quit cold turkey the day after i found out i was pregnant.  i was soooo sick almost until halfway in to my 2nd trimester...  of course from the pregnancy, but i think also from quitting cold turkey.  that was 5 yrs ago and i haven't smoked since!  it was the best thing i've done (health wise) and now smelling smoke makes me sick!  :)  going cold turkey is definately not easy but i just decided to do it!  hope you find the best way for your body to do it!!!  good luck!

I can totally relate to you actually. I am having the same issues. I have cut back alot, but it defintely is hard. I didn't think it would be. My sister smoked throughout her entire pregnancy and me nephew is a completely healthy nearly 5 year old. She had no problems, and I think that is what part of my problem is. I know its hard, but you are doing great cutting back. as long as you can maintain that i think you will be ok. Thats what my dr. told me. Though I'm trying to quit completely. SO HARD!

If you are going to be totally stressed out it is better to keep smoking just a tiny bit. I had a friend who couldn't quit and the Dr told her it wasn't healthy for her or the baby so she had like 1 or 2 a day and just a few drags off each one. Her baby was small, i think she has quit now

You're doing what you need to be doing. Slowly cut back and find other things to give you that kick (chew gum something to distract you when bored). Statistically speaking your baby would be at risk for respiratory and weight problems, so it is definitely important and if something were to happen to that baby, you'd blame yourself.

I'm not a smoker so I cannot relate but I just wanted to tell you to keep up the good job with trying to quit! There are tons of women on here who've been in your shoes and were able to quit and have healthy babies!

Hi, I haven't saw you around here before.. First let me say my mother smoked with all three of her babies, my brother was especially not  SMALL, he was close to 9.5 lbs... I know that it increases the risk of having a very small baby and other complications, but as long as you cut back a lot, you should be proud of yourself.. As many other women would tell you, you don't want to just quit cold-turkey anyways. How much do you smoke now? and if you aren't far along, there is still time in the next months to quit totally if that's what you wish to do, because it would definitely be best for both of you. And if you manage to quit, you really should stay off it because [I won't lecture you but..] you don't want the baby exposed to that, and it would be good for you in the long run! good luck

try something else for the stress like  reading or crosswords. Smoking can really effect your baby, lots of woman in my family smoked while pg and all had something wrong from really low birth weight , temp dropping , and lung problems. Please look up info online maybe it will scare you to quit..
