I didnt vote because I really dont know of anyone that has used that form of BC. I have always used it and have never gotten pregnant untill we start TTC. All my children were planned and there was never an opps. Of corse my doctor has told me im nuts and how unsafe it is. I guess the % of people that use it as BC do end up pregnant. I wouldnt recommend it either unless you want to become a parent.

I don't know anyone that got pregnant with the POM, I used the POM for two years and didn't get pregnant.  It worked for me.  But I wouldn't recommed it for anyone single.

I didn't read any comments but I know that many people say that the "pull out method" isn't a "method" at all, but I disagree.  I disagree because just like any "method", there will be a percentage of success/failure rate.  Unless you completely abstain from sex, there is always a chance of pregnancy no matter what "method" you use.  The pill is a "method", but it can still fail.  Using a condom is a "method", but it can still fail.  I could go on and on w/ other "methods".  BUT, I think that BOTH people need to know what they are doing in order for it to be successful.  And I don't recommend the pull out "method" unless you are married and can live w/ an unplanned pregnancy should one occur.

I myself have used the pull out "method" many times and have never gotten pregnant using it.  I do recommend NOT using it if you are not in a long term relationship or if you cannot live w/ a pregnancy if it does occur.  Really you are relying on the guy for the most part if you do use this, and men are, well selfish.  It does not feel good for them to pull out, so they can be very lazy about it.  If they get a bit lazy then it def will not work, so I don't advocate it.  I guess I just wanted to make it clear that I have used it w/ my husband and we have never gotten pregnant while using it and we are both very fertile.

With all of that being said, I would want to be more in control of whether or not I get pregnant.  I wouldn't rely on the guy for that (if I weren't married).

I hope I made some sense because I didn't want to make it sound as if I was contradicting myself.  Hopefully everyone understood what I was trying to say :)

I didn't vote because I don't personally know of anyone that has gotten pregnant using the pull out method.

I have gotten pregnant using this method twice!  With my ex, we used this method successfully for 3 years (personally think he had fertility issues!).  Met my husband and was pregnant on month two of being sexually active AND  was on the birth control pill!  when we were planning my son, we did not plan to get prego until march.  We stopped the pill so it would not interfere, used condoms and ONE TIME used the pull out method and bam...pregnant!  At least this time it was only 3 months early.  I was delighted since I didnt want to wait until March anyway, but isomeone not in the same situation, it could be devistating!  I dont generally talk to people about how they conceived, because I think most would say it was planned even if it wasnt, but I would say by knowing circumstance, I know at least 5 people not including myself who have had at least one baby this way.  I dont recommend it!

I agree with you 100%! Well said, I have a 4 year old and after his birth I went on BC for not long at all because I stayed so sick with every BC I tried. So went to condoms for a month or two and quit those.
So we started the POM and kept it going pretty much for 4 years. Now if I did become pregnant that would have been ok because we wanted another child it is just did not happen. So the POM does work for some women. Now we have been  TTC for 5 months no luck yet but it will happen!

i'd just like to point out to everyoone that it seems as though the original question is just a poll, and NOT an indication that anyone is in support of men and women using the POM to avoid pregnancy. However, there are some women, such as myself, who are married and OLD ENOUGH to get pregnant and feel that some prevention is better than none. in other words, when not actively TTC, but not horrendously afraid of pregnancy, the POM seems to do just fine. Except for the mess! :)

Well, I agree it is not really a method of birth control. In many cases, it will work for a while, but eventually you will get pregnant.  Like heathelynn said, It is like playing Russian Roulette.  If you want to get pregnant and don't care WHEN, use this method. =)

I know many people, myself included, who have done this for a year or more w/o gettting pregnant.  However, if you do NOT want to, DO NOT use this method!!

i agree with you 100% gillianl the pull out method in mpo isn't birth control at all. it's like playing russian roulette. eventually you loose. in this case you get a baby. if you're not planning on having a baby, don't want a baby the pull out method is probably the dumbest thing a person can do. as i've told my cousins who are young, still in school and what not. it's cheaper to buy a $10 box of condoms then it is to have a baby. can't afford that box of condoms or b/c....then simply don't have sex. if you want to risk the chance of getting pregnant then go right ahead and have unprotected sex. otherwise...use the brains God gave you.

You may hate this comment but as far as i am concerned. NO ONE wanting an unplanned pregnancy should EVER use the pull out method it is a seriously stupid and risky method.  I don't see the problem with some people just wearing condoms and being on the pill not just to stop an unplanned pregnancy but also from a lot of STD's.
My sister fell pregnant on the pull out method at 15 years old, i would seriously not recommend this to anyone.  hope i didn't upset anyone with this comment it's just my opinion

Then it doesn't seem like a very effective method, does it?

I didn't get pregnant using the pull-out method, but the # of people I know that have goes far beyond 4, so I voted 4.
