random question--bottle warmers?

im planning on pre-mixing bottles each day and storing them in the refrigerator until feeding time. i was going to purchase a bottle warmer to warm them up when its time for her to eat...this might be a weird question but im really confused about how bottle warmers work. do they mix the bottle for you? they all talk about mixing and measurement.s but all i want is just for it to warm up an already mixed bottle.

I didn't read all the other posts, but I've found the easiest way for me is to have the bottles filled with water, the powder pre-measured , and when he wants a bottle I just mix it, room temperature.  When a baby wantes a bottle, they usually want it NOW!  Heating it (under running water, in the microwave, etc) takjes several looong minutes.   My babies have all had their formula room temp from day one, and it makes it so much easier.  I don't have to worry about it being too hot, and i don't have to worry if we are out and about.  When we leave the house, I pack the diaper bag with two bottles of water and two or three little canisters of powder, measured out.
Plus, the powder is the cheapest way to buy formula.

actually a microwave is never good to warm formula! It leaches out the good nurtients of any food or beverage as it is such a high heat. Even on low bottles are never supposed to be be heated up in a microwave nor baby food. IT is surpising what all is gone afterwards even if it was just 15 sec on low. Formula companies did many researches as well as Childrens' Hospital and other places but I do not have their studies, just theri findings. You can heat water and put it in a container or on the stove in water after it is turned off, or use plain warm tap water. Bottles should be warmed to 94-96 degrees no more as it starts breaking down after that.

we do the same thing- premeasure the water in bottles and leave it next to the bed. We also have the simple formula compartment thing where you premeasure formula to make pouring into the bottles easy. I never got out of the bed in the middle of the night. Save your money- forget the minifridge, warmers, and such.

we don't bother with nursery water- just regular bottled water. If you use nursery water, make sure it doesn't have anything added to it (many do). You can also just use distilled water.

I never warmed my little girls bottles, till this day I don't. (She is 6 months). I just buy the nursery water, and leave the water at room temp.  That is how I did it since I quit breastfeeding her and she has been fine.

My friend on the other hand has a baby the same age as my daughter, and since he was born she always warmed his milk...He will NOT take his milk at any other temp but what he is use too. She even tried giving him room temp, and he will just spit out the nipple. She said she wish she would have done what I did, only because when we are out in public it makes it difficult to warm a bottle.

Its all on how you prefer.. I wouldn't waste money on a bottle warmer though. I would just get a pot of water and boil it, not too hot! and then pour it in a cup and set the bottle in that to warm it. It would work pretty much the same way, and you did waste money on something you might not even care for. :]

I just bought gallon jugs of bottled nursery water.  It was cheap (like 99 cents a gallon) and since our house is pretty big I would just go ahead and pour the right amount of water into the bottles and put a lid on them, then when he woke at night I would jsut pour in the formula and shake it up.

As for being used to warmed up vs. room temp.  That really just depends on the baby, some kids like it a certain temp other kids don't care.

I found this..it's from canada, but I'm sure the same principals apply:

http://www.viha.ca/mho/environment/water_quality/boil_water/What+to+do+During+a+Boil+Water+Notice.htm

according to it boiled water can be stored in the fridge OR at room temp.

thanks for yall your suggestions...i guess what im a little confused about is this: i know what she eats has to be mixed with either nursery water or boiled water right? and i really don't wanna buy a bunch of nursery water bottles all the time, so that is why i was going to boil the water and then mix the formula then refrigerate.

she's going to be sleeping downstairs in me and hubby's room, and upstairs is where the kitchen is. when its time to feed her at night i dont want to leave her in her crib to get a bottle because by that time she'll have fully woken up DH but i also don't want to take her up there with me because she'll wake up completely if she's just a little drowsy. sooo thats why i was thinkin of gettin a little mini fridge and 2 bottle warmers, one for upstairs during the daytime and one for downstairs. im not sure how else to do this...so any help is more than appreciated! maybe i should just pre-boil the water and leave it in her bottles (like leave a few on her changing table at night) then when she's hungry pour some formula in and feed her. is that safe without refrigerating anything?

if she's used to warmed up bottles will she have trouble drinking formula that is room temp?

I never bothered wasting money on a bottle warmer.  I didn't usually premix the bottles unless it was to send to daycare (they warmed them in a tub of hot tap water).  I would usually mix the bottles right when my kids were ready to eat.  If I did need to heat it up (and yes i know many people poopoo this) I used the microwave.  The big deal about using a microwave is that it creates heat pockets in the liquid.  It has to be shook up really really good in order to mix the hot and cold parts equally and you have to be very careful not to overheat it. It only takes a few seconds depending on how cold the milk/formula is.  The microwave is NOT good for breastmilk though becuase it kills some of the beneficial stuff in it.   I have always tested to figure out the right amoutn of time to warm and I ensure that I shake it up really really well and test it on the inside of my wrist before giving it to them.  But as I said, I prefer to mix it right when necessary.  It's faster, easier and makes it a good temperature as long as you use room temp. water.

I'm a mum to a nearly two year old boy, I used a bottle warmer a few times but I really didn't like it. It doesn't warm the milk all at once, just the bottom half, if u "accidentaly" forget to turn it off, it's really dangerous. U could over heat the milk also.

I never premade my sons bottles but what I did was I used formula containors with seperators in them. U can buy them at your local chemist. Basicly u pre measure the formula and u can leave just the water in the bottle in the fridge. Also eliminated the chance of forgetting when milk will need to b thrown out by.
When ur ready for the bottle, just microwave the water first then add the formula. Really you shouldn't b microwaving the made up stuff but microwaving water is totaly fine

hope this makes sence

They warm the bottle by producing steam around it. There is a very hot heating element in the bottom that steams the water you pour in. It takes a few minutes but is generally safe as long as you make sure to mix the bottle well after. I personally prefer making the bottle when she's hungry because it's so much faster and hungry babies don't like to wait! I also like her to be used to room-temp bottles.

I dunno the answer to your question. But I'm assuming that if you just want to warm the bottle up, you can just sit it on the warmer and it will do just that. Even if its already mixed. :] I don't use a bottle warmer, cause i use the drop in liners for my bottles, and of course I just sat the bottle in warm water.
