roseola in 1yr old

My son (1yr old) was experiencing high fevers for two nights, getting as high as 104.2. We took him to the ped. and she told his he has a viral infection. Now he has broken out in this pinkish/red rash all over his body. Some are raised and some are not. My mother said she believes it to be roseola. Any one else go through this with thier child? Should I be concerned? Any remedies for it or does it just run its course?

My daughter had it when she was about a year,it lasted about 2-3 days, and she was fussy and didnt sleep well. I gave her Tylenol and motrin for the temp and keep her in cool breathable cloths and when her temp would go up after having some tylenol or motrin, i would give her a cold wet washcolth to play with and i would hold it to her forehead. When 'my daughter had it I talked to a nurse that I work with and she said that it is not unusual for children to get roseola it just that some parents think it is a heat rash or maybe from lotion that they are using( that what I thought the 1st day)  With my daughter her rash showed up before anything else.But i pray that he gets to feeling better. my DD had it at 8 months.  She was extremely cranky (unusual for her) and feverish.  Eventually she broke out in a rash.  No meds were prescribed....doc suggested Advil or Tylenol to keep the fever under control.

yes.  my son just went through this in November,  he had high fevers for 2 days and then a rash, light pink, pretty much head to toe and it was diagnosed as roseola.

it was harmless and the rash disappeared within 2 days.  they dont give meds or anything for it.

I have only known kids to get this maybe a dizen times. IT is very contageous and not just your normal rash!!! It does run it's course and can not be treated with antibiotics but the fever has to be kept under control as it can shoot up and cause seizers. If you are pregnant then it is highly contageous to you and the baby as well. Has he had shots recently??? That can be from shots even if it has been more then a week! Everything has to be washed in hot water even your bedding if he sleeps there. You can alternate tylenol and motrin for fevers but I would call a nurse on line or hospital or pharmacy to get the right schedule. It has been so long since I had to do that with my daughter when she had ear infections. It should last like 4-5 days and he is contageous until all the rash is totally gone and the fever as well. I would notify any one with children that you have been around cause the incubation period I think is 7-14 days. Hope he feels better soon!
