rude L&D nurse

I've been having contractions since Tuesday afternoon. There were 10 minutes apart then and now I'm finally at 7 minutes. My doctor told me not to go in until they got to 5 but last night they weren't letting me sleep so i called L&D. Ive never talked to a more rude nurse in my life. She told me to drink water but she really didn't think i needed to come in. Stated that 2 liters of water throughout the day wasn't enough and that i needed to drink a whole liter then, and if there wasn't any change then i could come in. Told her i was having severe back pain with them and had lost my mucous plug. She then told me.. That really doesn't matter it just matters how close they are. I'm sorry but being tired, pregnant, and in pain she could've been a little more helpful and less rude. Sorry rant over!!

the same thing happened to me but really I was in labor for days, didn't know it and my baby was full term but born so sick BC they kept sending me home. if they would have listened the first time they would have been able to get him out earlier. I knew with all my heart I was in labor so I would go in! screw her and if u know ur in labor and they won't admit you, you can go to another hospital and get a second opionion good luck

I will tell you that the women that were my delivery nurses when I had my two boys on separate occasions were angels on earth.  I really counted on them and they did a fantastic job.  It was just that one experience . . .   grrr.

I had a L&D nurse with my first pregnancy who was actually a 'charge' nurse or the 'boss' of the unit be very rude and condescending to me.  My contractions were 5 minutes apart and had been going on for 18 hours and intensifying.  I went in (was also PAST my due date by over a week).  She mocked me and made me feel like a wimp. She said, women come in at 5 min and they don't need to be here until they are 2 to 3 minutes.  My cervix was a 1 still according to this charge nurse and the nurse helping her.  So, they sent me home with a sleeping pill that I threw up as soon as I took it.  I sat there all night and the entire next day vomiting with contractions, getting sicker and sicker based on that charge nurses 'advice.'  Finally the next night I called my doctor and she told me to meet her there.

I was having a complication to labor calling 'latent phase' labor.  My cervix wasn't responding the way it was supposed to.

That nurse lost her job over my case.  I made a pretty big stink about it.  I'm college educated and not dumb.  I know my rights as a patient.  L&D nurses do deal with many false alarms but they have a duty to provide care and to do so in a professional manner.

So, complain to the hospital about your treatment.  And know that if you have a complication and her job compounded issues, it's on HER and she'll lose her job.

good luck
