scan showed low fluid level! :(

So i went for my 37week growth scan today! Everything with our little girl was fine! They reckon she weighs about 6lb 6oz which is perfect! She was breathing on her own in there which again is good and there is a fantastic blood flow through the cord! The only thing is the fluid around her is measuring pretty low! I now hve to have 2 appointments a week to check her heartbeat and i have another scan in two weeks time to recheck the fluid level! Has anyone had this happen to them and the baby still be complely fine when born at 40weeks? The dr didnt seem overly worried just yet but did keep telling me to be extra vigilant with keeping an eye on her movements! Please can someone give me some reassurance! Thank you

Being as you are 37 weeks it's likely your body could be gearing up to go into labor.  With my two middle kids I was having bi-weekly AFI's (amniotic fluid index) and with both we saw that the level of fluid decreased in the week or so before I went into labor. At this point with them monitoring the heartbeat and fluid chances are good that the worst case scenario you are looking at would be an induction before you go into labor on your own.

Did they tell you what the amniotic fluid was measuring?  In the third trimester anything from 5-35 is considered normal and the closer you are to delivery the lower it's likely to be.

With my first I had an emergency c-section but her fluid had been measuring low for a few months, plus she was breech and small for her gestational age (born 4 lbs 15 oz)

It really doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about since everything else looks good.

If the low level fluids concern you or the doctor. You are basically at "term" so baby will be fine! If you were 30wks with low fluids thats worrisom. But these types of things do happen towards end of pregnancy.

a small tear or hole isn't likely to be picked up on ultrasound, but it's something YOU are likely to notice, simply becuase your panties would be wet...not with the normal discharge but with a clear liquid that doesn't smell like urine.  You wouldn't necessarily feel it come out but would notice the dampness.  Chances are good that that is NOT the case though...I really think your body is just preparing for the task ahead.

Its about time the drs at this hospital were over cautious! They treated me like **** when i had to be transfered there after ds was born! Would they have seen a small hole or tear on the ultrasound? I really hope shes here soon! I just have this feeling shes gonna be! Lol! Im just so fed up of these constant on/off braxtons! :)

It's always better for your doctors to be over cautious than to dismiss things.  I did make a typo ...the normal range is 5-25 (not 35).  The fluid level generally peaks at around 34 weeks and will gradually decrease until delivery.  One concern the doctors may have is a compromised bag of waters.  If the bag of waters has a small hole or tear it can increase risk of infection, which is probably why they want to keep an eye on things.  You never know, you may just be gearing up to have a baby in the next few days :)

Majikat- Thank you! :)

LosingMyMindInGA- Thats interesting! For the past week i have had all the signs that labor is gearing up to start so maybe that is why! It is such a relief to know that you think that induction is worst case senario as iv been preparin myself to be induced this pregnancy anyway!

I'm quite annoyed at the dr now as they said my level is 5.5 and considering im only 2 and a half weeks away from being due with my 2nd child then there doesnt look like there is much to worry about if im still in the normal bracket! i supose they are just being over careful!

Thank you so much! I feel a lot better about i now! :)

With my last pregnancy this happened. At about 36w everything was fine, by 37w my water was low, recheck a few days later lower again, a few days later lower again by my 38w check up, it was lower we had already sch. a induction date for 39w1d. Everything was fine when I had my baby...As long as you are keeping an extra eye on the baby ((believe me, I did go to L&D a few time in between, Better to be safe then sorry)). and with your OB keeping an extra eye on you, Im sure you and your baby will be Fine! Congrats and good luck
