spotting cramping and low hcg levels

well i found out i was pregnant on xmas 2 days later went to the hospital with severe cramping and brown spotting now my last period was around thanksgiving so i should be a bit over a month, but my hcg level was 86 the dr said it should be in the 18000 for over a month. they couldnt c anything in my uterus. they think its not a viable pregnancy or ectopic i was to come back 2 days later for another ultra sound and hcg level check they thought they might have seen something in this ultra sound but not sure...hcg was up to 200 so its doubled but they said too low for how far along i should be. im concerned cause ive had two previous miscarriages and no children. could i just be really early in my pregnancy? i have cramps everyday some where it pinches and pulls on my lower belly to the right  and im still spotting brown. im so confused i really want this to be a viable pregnancy. and is there anything i can do to help this pregnancy

so the sac has grown then which is a good sign.  it could just really be you ovulated later than what you thought therefore you will not be as far along.

did you schedule another hcg test?

RH positive isn't something to worry about. Its something that they test for in the blood in addition to your blood type. If you were RH negative which is more rare it could present a problem since the baby might have RH positive blood and sometimes blood from the baby can enter into the mothers system. This in turn creates antibodies which would treat the baby like an intruder and attack the baby's blood causing it to break down the red blood cells and anemia would develop. In severe cases it can cause illness, brain damage and even death. People with RH negative have to get an injection during pregnancy that suppresses her ability to react to the RH positive red cells. However, again you have RH positive blood so none of this would be a concern yet for you.

Also, anytime you "bleed" in pregnancy its considered a threatened abortion and 25-30% of all pregnancies that reported bleeding carried to term, so I wouldn't be too concerned. I'm not surprised that all they saw was a sac and maybe a yoke sac since it is way too early to see anything else. Maybe request another ultrasound in a week or so to make sure things are progressing.

thankyou all so much for your feed back i went in to the er for severe cramping and they saw a sac and questionable yoke sack no fetal pole no heart beat they measured and said im 5w2d so they r still calling it "threatened abortion" anyone know what rh positive means

Yes, it might be a bit too early, I hope and pray that's what it is. Hang in there until you get a definite answer from your doctor. Miracles happen so have faith! Good luck!

maybe you even ovulated later than you thought you did so you might not be as far along as you thought you were.

i would request another ultrasound in a week.

I am praying for a viable pregnancy myself.  I also found out that I was pregnant on Christmas, and so far I have brown spotting and low HCGs.  My last period was in November, and I should be 7 weeks along.  The ultrasound shows a sac (as of 2 days ago), but no fetal pole or yolk.  That tells me I'm either less than 5 weeks, or the baby is developing slowly.  My HCGs are below 1000.  I'll pray for you (and me) during this challenging time.  Many babies have been born with spotting moms and slow rising HCGs!

I was 4 weeks and 3days and my beta was only 88, it did go to 300 two days later, I'm suprised your Doc. would give you such a high beta, he seems to be calculating 4 weeks from conception, not your period, at 6 weeks from your period they might be that high???? ANYWAYS I am at 22 weeks and she is fine so just hang in there as long as those numbers are doubeling! Good luck dear.

American Pregnancy Association gives this as the average range of levels for a normal pregnancy:

#  3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
# 4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
# 5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
# 6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
# 7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
# 9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
# 13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
# 17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
# 25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml

Also I forgot to mention before but I had a miscarriage once before as well. My next pregnancy at 5 weeks I started bleeding bright red worse then a period with cramps and clots. I was told first that it was an ectopic and then that it was actually in the uterus but that it was most likely going to end in miscarriage. I bled like that for almost 5 straight weeks every day. My daughter is now a healthy, beautiful one year old. Don't loose faith yet.

Cramps are normal during pregnancy. As long as your not doubled over or the most excruciating thing you've ever experianced then its probably not an ectopic. Also brown blood is old blood and common to be seen in early pregnancy. You can't really measure by how high your levels are at 5 weeks its considered completely normal to have levels as low as 5. What matters is that they double at least 80% in 48 hours which it sounds like yours have. Also at 5 weeks it would be too early to see much of anything. I went in for an ultrasound at 5w3d and saw only a sac at 5w6d we saw a sac and a fetal pole and then at 6w1d we saw a baby an a heartbeat. This early in pregnancy every day can make a huge difference.
