I dont disagree that you should be tested, an std can be harmful. frankly I think hiv testing should be mandatory also during pregnancy. But people should know just because this is what should happen it is not always the case.. my OB asks if i can leave a urine sample at each visit but they dont make me like say if i didnt have to go or something they wont try to make me drink to get a sample we just move on. For me with the urine sample they are testing for protein in the urine to detect preeclampsia and possible signs of infection
Well all that is also true bt like the.other girl said an std can harm your child so your doctor should automatically tests you for it because it affects if you should hve a vaginal birth or csection ! But anyone who thinks peeing in a cup is to tests for std should know there actually drug testing you atleast thats what mine does
I think it depends on where you live, where i live its a law that you have to be tested at the beginning of your pregnancy. And even if it's not mandatory where you live, it's still a good idea. My friend didn't know she had chlamydia, and if she didn't have that test her baby's life could have been threatened severely.
According to the cdc website you should ask your OB for testing because not all doctor's routinely Do std testing just because of pregnancy... i know with my first my doctor asked if i wanted std testing with this one they didnt say if they were doing tests for that or not... alot of people think just because they get a pelvic exam/swab they are getting tested for std's as well and thats not true.. they could just be doing a PAP the lab will check for whatever the doctor has ordered they check for if its just to check for abnormal cervical cells which is what a pap is for then thats what they check for if its for both or just stds they will check for that... i've seen some girls on here post that they are checked for stds every visit just because they pee in a cup at every visit... and thats not the case please ask your doctor if your unsure of what tests you are and are not getting thats what they are there for
I don't think they are voluntary tests besides HIV. That's the only one I ever had to sign permission for, but the rest are tested for because they can interfere with a vaginal birth and some can be passed to baby when it's on its way out. The doctor needs to know this ahead of time just like they need to know your iron levels or blood pressure. It's kind of important and most can be treated before birth so they aren't passed to baby.
Never heard of them not making you do something you dont want just like i dont want them to make me pee in a cup every appointment but they do it to test your pee !
They can't make you do what you don't want it besides I think those tests are humiliating and invasive as a woman
I understand every doctor is different too so some may do things different..mine didn't ask he just gave me a run through on what tests would be done which week and then I would do it!
Ftmbabybrooklyn well mine was mandatory bt my cousin who used a different doctor than me was asked was it ok to test her for hiv bt they automatically tested her and me for std so i also thought it was mandatory
Really you have a choice? I always though it was mandatory because when you give birth they need to know if you have an infection that could be passed to the babies in some cases a c section is required when something really harmful and lifelong could be transfered to be baby
Actually not trying to be rude bt She does hve to bcusx an std could affect your child so they automatically tests you for it the only thing you do not hve to test for is hiv you could say no to that
Yes they check everything just to make sure you and baby are doing Fine.:)
You don't have to if you don't want to
Yeah the obgyn does on your exam
