I had it when I gave birth to my first boy in September. They swab your front and back. Takes 2 seconds to swab. If you have it, you'll be given antibiotics through an IV before you deliver. They test you to begin with for STD's and toward the end my doctor takes one last blood sample to check for again to be sure. My group b came back negative this time.
I had it wit my first pregnancy n nothing went wrong wen i had him n now I'm 31 weeks with second
Do the anti botics they give u work 100%
Group B strep is a common strep bacteria that one in 4 women have in their vaginal area. It is not an STD. Most women do not even know they have it. It is not harmful to women but if your baby contracts it at birth it can be deadly to the baby. If you test positive they will give you antibiotics at birth as soon as your water breaks. This stops it from being passed on to the baby at birth.
I just would feel better if I got tested for anything that could be a harm to my baby just incase since I'm gonna be giving birth vaginally
They tested you for stds in the beginning of pregnancy. If you came back negative they won't re test you. But if you're concerned, bring it up to your Dr and have yourself tested!
I wasn't tested for any vaginal infections before delivery to my knowledge. If it bothers you, you can request them to check for yeast or bv by doing a wet prep.
Oh okay do they test u for any other infections just in case?
Its the last test you'll take. If you're positive then they'll start you on an iv of antibiotics when you go into labor so it doesnt get passed on to baby.
