supposed to be 7 weeks, diagnosed 5 weeks 1 day???

hi all so i started my last period on august 11th. it is now september 29th. i took a pregnancy test on the 21st of sept and it was positive. i just went in for my first ultrasound today and i told them  i would be at 7 weeks based on my LMP. my cycles are normally within 28-32 days each month. however they told me that i was measuring at 5 weeks 1 day and that they couldn't see a baby yet because at this point it would be too little. is it possible that i could have ovulated later and actually only be 5 weeks?? me & my husband slept together on my supposed ovulation days so i thought that was when i got pregnant--we also did a few times after that. please help i am very stressed out and confused. they want me to come back in 2 weeks for another ultrasound. should i go somewhere else in one week? am i supposed to be able to see a baby at 6 weeks?? any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I am so grateful to this forum for keeping me hopeful.  Today my doctor told me that my 7 wk 3 day pregnancy is showing a fetus 5 wks 3 days old and no heartbeat.  Back in July with my first m/c and the exact situation staring me in the face, I came home with positive thoughts.  The u/s after that one left us devastated and so did the D&C.  This time I just don't know how I would handle it and at this moment my expectations are very low (I know that sounds bad).  I don't want to go through this again but what will be will be.  Thanks at least for airing your own experiences.

From everything that I have read, a normal heart rate at 6 weeks is around 90-110 bpm (this info was from my OB and from what I read online). You seem to still be in that normal range. I'm not sure why they would say you would probably miscarry. Try to relax and stay positive. Are they scheduling you another scan?

I am going through the same exact think right now. My lmp was 8/13. On 9/28 I had a vaginal ultrasound and only measured 5.5 weeks with only a gestational sac & yolk sac. I went back for another ultrasound on 10/10 and still only measured 5.5 weeks but there was a heart beat. Only 50 bpm though. They told to prepare to miscarry. I go for another u/s on 10/16. I'm terrified.

thanks for all your responses! i got a transvaginal ultrasound about a week ago and we heard the heartbeat and saw the tiny baby! it was amazing. the second ultrasound was consistent with the first one and my hormone levels were wonderful so i must have ovulated late! they did tell me that the baby's heart rate was 95 but it hit 105 a couple times. they said for a 6 week 4 day pregnancy this is below normal and that i would probably miscarry. has anyone else had this happen to them?? can 95 still be a healthy baby?

I had a sonogram done at 6 weeks to confirm pregnancy. There was a tiny bean there with a heartbeat. If you are only 5 weeks, it may be too soon to see the baby right now. In two weeks, you should be able to see the baby and the heartbeat. Congrats!

I don't agree with a previous comment. They typically already add two weeks to baby's size during an early sonogram, based on your LMP.

By the way, sonograms that are up to 2 weeks off are NORMAL. Don't fret. The point now is that your HCG continues to rise normally and in a couple weeks a follow-up sonogram should show a little jelly bean-sized baby with a heartbeat. Good luck!

From what I understand there is a difference in how you count the weeks.  Generally you conceive about 2 weeks after your peroid starts.  With that knowledge if you measure how far along you are by your LMP you are adding 2 weeks to the baby.  A baby measuring 5 weeks is accurate to be 7 weeks along (however, your doc will just say 5 weeks)

A baby measuring 5 weeks is too small to see or hear a heartbeat.  You just need to give thing time to develop.

I hope I explained this ok.????  have a happy 9 months!

It is possible you could have ovulated later. Normally, with an HCG of 741, you probably wont see baby. I think, and dont quote me, you have to have an HCG of 1000 or more to see something? I may just be too early. I would wait it out. Wait the 2 weeks and go from there.
