ultrasound

I went to the dr this morning and thought that I was 6 weeks and 2 days. They did the ultrasound and found that the baby was only measuring 5 weeks and 5 days. No heartbeat was able to be seen. The dr said one of two things will happen, I was wrong on my dates and when I come back in a week everything will be great or when I will miscarry. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them.

Okay ladies, I went back to the dr today and had another ultrasound. The dr said everything looked 110% better and we got to see our little beans heartbeat which was 132 beats a minute. Thank you so much again for all the prayers & encouraging words.

My sweet 2 year old was nothing but a tiny circle of yolk sac when I first got to see her on uktrasound. It's really cool that things change so rapidly in a growing baby.

Thank you everyone. After doing lots of research I have found that most drs draw blood and check your hcg levels. My Dr has not done any of this. When I go back on Tuesday for an ultrasound I am going to request my Dr draw blood and run these levels to make sure they are rising. I will keep you all updated. It's been a rough week. After all that I went wrong Tuesday w/ the ultrasound I had a car wreck Wednesday morning on the way to work. But I definately have more positive outlook w/ this baby now because of all your encouraging words. Praying for good news Wednesday.

Hi i just went for scan today and had a same situation. i thought i was 6 weeks and 2 days but scan showed i just started my fifth weeks so they were only able to see a sac and small sesame seed with no heart beat yet. so i have been told to come back on 21/11/11 so lets see how it goes. my midwife said that everything looks perfectly fine and its looks start of pregnancy. so i will keep u updated if any changes come. by then i hope u see your baby's heart beat soon. :) take cares...

I got an ultrasound at 5w6d and saw no heartbeat and then at 6w1d got a repeat ultrasound and saw a heartbeat. This early in pregnancy even a couple days can make a huge difference! Not only that but ultrasounds can also be up to a week off in early pregnancy.

I am sorry that you are goin through that:( It is very stressful I am sure I have had somthin similiar happen to me I went to ER havin cramps and such and they said that it was to early to get a heartbeat or anything ,the baby could not have lived or its just to early...I had to wait a week and it was horrible and stressful. I was told to take it easy and not stress(yea right) well a week later i went and had the scope sono and all was well. so i hope that all is well for you. it is very easy to confuse dates thats for sure..i wish u the best of luck :)

With this pregnancy (it's my 4th) I went in at what I thought was 6 weeks and the ultrasound showed 5 weeks 2 days went back a week later and showed 6 weeks 1 day but I saw the baby and heartbeat. Now I am 14 weeks and at my 12 week scan the baby was caught up to my edd and lmp. Don't worry things are probably fine:)

I had the exact same problem. They told me i had more weeks than what i really had. They told me i was going to miscariage and i was scared. Then 4 days later i went for an ultrasound and we got to here my baby's heart beat. Turns out i was only 6 weeks not 12 weeks like they told me. Now im almost 12 weeks and dont worry its going to be fine. Ill pray for you and your baby.

Where I live unless there is a reason to, they dont do scans before 12 weeks..  It is really hard waiting that long to get that confirmation but they do it that way because by that stage, you get accurate measurements of the babys gestation and the heart beat should be there.

These early scans can sometimes create a lot of unnecessary worry.. try to relax because as everyone said a day can make a difference at this stage in the game..

I can only speak from personal experience and ive had it go both ways. Last year i went for an early ultrasound at 6 weeks but measured 5w2d and nothing but a sac was seen. We kept checking every week until 9 weeks when i made the decision to have a d&c because baby never developed. My doctor said they call this a blighted ovum. Now on to this year and my current pregnancy i went for an ultrasound when i should of been 6w5d but measured 5w2d once again. Yes i thought the worst was going to happen and stressed so much. We went back 2 weeks later when by lmp i should of been 8w5d to find a perfect baby measuring 7w2d with a beautiful heartbeat. By the 12 week scan baby was caught up and my due date was changed to match my lmp. So yes even just a few days can make such a difference in pregnancy!

Yes they saw a sac and that is all. I am scheduled to go back next Tuesday. But she said when I come back next week if nothing has changed we will discuss other options which I assume are a D&C. Thank you so much for all the encouraging words. I am going to stay positive and hope my dates are off....and that is highly possible because all I know is the day of my LMP and that is how the dr calculated the due date and got that I should have been 6 weeks & 2 days. Just irritated me bc the Dr acted like 4 days wouldn't make that much difference.

it is soooo small at this stage that it is not uncommon at all to not see a heartbeat! it drives me CRAZY when people say you should see x and y by 5 or 6 weeks -- some doctors even push for a d and c in these cases!!!

i had an u/s at 5 weeks and a few days and they only saw a sac. at 8 weeks they saw it all -- baby, heartbeat, etc. so don't worry hun! most likely everything is just fine!

I wouldn't worry about the dates being wrong at this point...even in the first trimester an ultrasound's date can be off by as much as a week--due to both tech and machine error.  I had three ultrasounds in the first trimester and had three different gestational ages!!  At my 20 week ultrasound, I was shocked that our little guy was measuring right at my due date considering he never did in any of the first three ultrasounds.  Also, a lot of times doctor's aren't able to see the heartbeat until a little after six weeks, hopefully you have another one scheduled in the next week or two and will be able to see and hear it then!! =)

I did not see a heartbeat with either of my last two pregnancies until at least 6 to 6 1/2 weeks. A day can make a HUGH difference in early pregnancy! It's also very common to have your dates wrong. Even if you think you know when the baby was conceived it could have taken longer for it to implant which would throw your dates off. Your dates are not off by a lot and there is no reason to be concerned right now just try to relax you can't change what's going to happen all you can do is wait.

I wouldn't worry quite yet. Many, MANY women have been in similar situations and gone on to have perfectly fine pregnancies. In pregnancy just two days makes a huge difference.

I just went last Friday (I thought I was 6w 6d) but I was told I was only 6w and they saw the heartbeat. A lot can change in a few days. You will be fine you just have the dates wrong, you and your lil chick pea are in my prays.
