unable to concieve due to depo shot and side effects

I took the depo shot for 3 years and had a period evertime the shot was due. When I got married 6 months ago my husband and I decided we wanted to try and get pregnant so I stopped taking the shot. The periods stopped and for about 5 months nothing happend. Now I haven't stopped bleeding for the last 3 months and its starting to worry me. My doctors only answer to everything is that I'm too fat which is due to the depo shot. Can anyone tell me anything like if they went through something similar or something so I don't feel so worried?

I was on depo for about a year and a half.  When I came off it my periods took a few cycles to regulate, but after that were very regular again.  I didn't try to get pregnant until a year or so after I came off the shot, and it took about 3 months.  It may take up to a year to get all of the hormones from the depo to get out of your system.  I would wait a little longer before you start getting worried.  Good Luck!

find another doctor and give your body time to get back to normal.Hormonal bc can really mess with your system and cycle. It may also take a while for it to clear out of your system.
all the best!

i was on the depo-shot for 2 and a half years, came off of it and had a majorly out of whack period for 6 months then nothing for 3 months and kept thinking i had conceived which i hadn't, it then went totally out of whack when it returned and i ended up going onto the contraceptive pill for 2 months just to regulate my cycle and it has now been a regular 26-28days since Jan 2009.  i would not advise anyone to go on this bc as it majorly messes up your body. i wish you the best of luck in ttc

How long ago was your last actual shot? You said you wanted to try to conceive 6 months ago, but for 5 months nothing happened, and now for the last 3 months you've been bleeding nonstop. So did you stop using it 6 months ago, or 8? (sorry if I sound stupid, I just want to make sure) Ive never personally used depo, but I know when you come off it can take 6 months up to a year (and I've heard others say it took longer) for the drug to fully leave your system. I know depo commonly causes weight gain, but I'm unsure of how your weight would affect the bleeding, unless it's similar to other things where when you drop weight your body regulates itself and your periods become normal again. Personally I think you should see another doctor, and if you like, try to lose the weight they said you got from the shot and see if that helps at all. If not, there are medicines they might be able to use to control the bleeding. It could also be your body attempting to regulate itself fromthe shot still. It's difficult to say.
