urine collection test

Have any of you had to do a 24 hour urine collection test to check for high blood pressure ? My ob  wants the test to make sure I don't end up.with pre eclampsia. The thing I don't understand is  I'm only 15 weeks and I didn't have this test with my first son. Also how can they tell from urine?

I've had mine check twice because I've had history of Hbp and can cause preeclampsia which can be bad and can end up having the baby sooner if its not control, I passed the first test and that was in the beginning and now that I am 36weeks and 1day I was told last week my protein came out a lil high but not high enough to be a risk but atleast I'm really close to my due date and I heard full term would be at 37weeks so I'm not to worry but either I have to constantly be checked just Incase well Good luck

The protein indicates preeclampsia? :( I have a kidney disease called IGA nephrapothy so I automatically spill massive amounts of protein  in my urine. is there another way to test for preeclampsia?

You might be at risk. And they test urine because he has the proetin then indicates per eclampsia.

I had to it because I have a kidney disease. I didn't think they could test for preeclampsia through urine. I don't know though :/ best wishes :)

I have! I had pre eclampsia with my first. They can tell by watching the amount of protein in your urine but thats not always a sure fire way! My protein levels were within "normal" but my blood pressure steadily climbed to reach the point of 220/130 and i gained 13 lbs of water my last week of pregnancy before being induced.

The 24 hour collection is a pain in the neck but its not difficult by any means!
