vulva pain

I recently turned 41 and have started having problems with dryness in the vulva leading to painful intercourse.  At times it itches and the pain feels like cuts or like needles poking me.  At times certain areas will bleed but not necessarily from having intercourse but I think its from the dryness.  I have been taking birth control for a while to control heavy menstrual cycles and just recently found out that I am diabetic.  I did tell my doctor that I felt occasional irritation and she suggested I use a vinegar and water douche once every 3 months if needed.  What do you suggest?

Try some of the natural vaginal lubes that are designed just for daily  vaginal health as opposed to being made for sexual intercourse?

Douching is actually not healthy.
I suggest using lube for intercourse
are you maybe starting menapause or pre menapause symptoms.
I also suggest seeing a different dr cause I don't think it's a good idea to be sticking vinager in you vagina
