I wasn't induced with my first child, but I did have to have my water broken. The stick looks kind of like a very long crochet needle. I could feel a little pressure, felt a pop, and then a gush of fluid. It wasn't bad at all. I was around 5cm when they broke my water and I really started to progress thereafter. I also opted for an epidural which was given before my water was broken, but the epidural made my contractions stop for some time (very uncommon for women to do this less than 1% of women), so they broke my water. I had to have the epidural removed so between my water being broken and stopping the epidural, I ended up having my daughter about 4-5 hours later, it was 10 years ago so can't remember exact timelines, but I remember it being lunch and then it was dinner when she was finally here.

I was induced with my son,we went in at like 7:00pm and they put in cervadil for 12 hours, nothing was happening before or after that so they started pitocin and increased it every 20 minutes or so. Nothing happened the entire day and I was beginning to get really frustrated as the docotor said there was a possibility they might send me home if nothing happened. About an hour before they were going to shut off the pitocin for the night I began to feel the contractions - mild no big deal, the nurse said they would go away after awhile and they did. At 2am the next morning they restarted it and by 3:30am I knew it was going to be that day as the contractions kept coming. At 10am my water broke by itself and shortly after that had an epidural. He was born at 2:21pm
Get this my sister inducement took THREE days (not kidding - I think she holds the record at that hospital) with her first but only  a little more than 12 hours with the second!

I was induced. My water broke at 38 weeks and I wasn't having any contractions. Rule is that they like to deliver you within 18 hours of your water breaking so that you dont risk infection. Anyways I finally got the pitocin at about 11pm and then I delivered at 4 am. Honestly they do come kind of hard and fast but as soon as you are able to push it really doesn't hurt anymore.

I was induced with my first with pitocin..... they had me on an iv for a couple hours with light contractions no pain..... the doctor then came in at 3pm to break my water to speed things up.... it did not hurt when he broke my water... just felt a gush of water kinda gross lol.... but that really started things off..... but the induction and water breaking are not bad at all.....right after he broke my water at 3pm i had her at 5:30 pushing and all.... no pain meds.... YES the contractions hurt but it was do- able even with being induced.....

i was induced with my daughter and the breaking the water part didn't hurt but when the pitocin was givin and the contractions started i was in a lot of pain. they gave me my epidural and everthing went great form then on. they brok my water at 8am and by 11:18 am my little girl was here. other than the contractions the whole thing was a great welcome to me after being in labor with my son for 72 hours

Yes, it hurts to have your water broken, but it's not totally unbearable.  I know I was surprised that they actually break it multiple times.  First they put the stick up and pop the bag... big gush.  Then they reach up and move things around again .. and another big gush.  It happened about 4 times, and it hurt.

I was also induced, which was fine.  A lot of women say that pitocin makes labor really bad, but that wasn't true for me.  I had very easy labor even with the pit until I finally decided to get my epidural.  But even then it wasn't bad at all.  I only got it because I was all hooked up and couldn't move around anyway.  However, I did end up having a c-section because the head would not descend.  I do believe that the inducement played a role in this, as well as the doctor's impatience, and my son having an extra large head

I was induced with my daughter on my due date.  I went in at 6 am they started an iv took some information hooked me up to monitors and around 7 they started the pitocin.  They increased the dosage every 4 hours.  Nothing really happened until 3 pm.  I was up walking around doing stuff and bam the contractions started hard and fast.  They started at a 3 on a scale of 1-10.  I said yeah I want pain meds now but they needed to monitor the baby for 30 minutes before they would give me and pain meds.  They strapped the monitor on and it kept coming off, they would come in every 10 mins and say oh its not in the right place anymore we have to readjust and start over.  This happened a couple of times and finally they got their readings and gave me pain meds thru my IV.  From there
I didnt feel anything.  It made me sleepy so i was in and out of it.  I got an epidural and didnt feel it.  The next thing I really remember is my doctor coming in saying she was going to break my water only to find out it already broke and i was fully dialted and ready to go.  She was getting ready to delivery me when a nurse came in and said her other patient across the hall was fully dialted and ready to deliver.  She was going without meds and had been screaming for a while.  My doc said lets do me first then she will be right over and i said no im good here i feel nothing.  that other woman is in pain go do her first.  so she left, delivered her and came back for me.  I pushed for 30 minutes and my daughter was born.

being induced was a great experience for me.  It was such a calm controlled enviroment it kinda took the fear out of the birth for me.  The only thing that sucked is they wouldnt let me eat.  I was starving and felt like **** bc of it.  My husband snuck me in some cheetos and I got yelled at by the nurse but it was worth it!

I was induced on July 12 of this year. I went in at 6am and they started the Pitocin at 7:01am. I was 4 cm and fully effaced but wasn't progressing so that's why I was induced. Anyway, the doctor broke my water (doesn't hurt at all, I didn't even know it happened until the water came gushing out). They kept increasing the Pitocin every 20 minutes and finally at about 9:30 am the contractions were too strong to handle anymore. The only thing that ***** about the induction is that Pitocin makes contractions come hard and fast, there is no build up to prepare you. Anyway, I finally got my epidural and from then on it was smooth sailing. I felt no pain even through the entire delivery. My son was born at 3:07 pm. The whole thing was complete in 8 hours and 6 minutes (very short for a first timer!!!) The only pain I felt was the contractions before I got the epidural. Basically, I had a wonderful experience with my induction but I was also in so much pain and on bedrest prior to it that it was a welcomed experience. Hope this helps.

I was induced with my first pregnancy as i was full term and really wanted my ob to be there to deliver my baby.  He was going on holidays for 3 weeks in a few days time, and as i had built up such a relationship with him and trusted him with my baby i really wanted him to be there.  I was only 1 day from my due date and i was fully effaced and 2.5 cm dialated so we knew it would be soon anyway.  I went in at 5pm and they monitored the baby for 20min then put in the gel )a little uncomforatble like an internal) and then continued to monitor the baby for 45min.  I was then sent home as they thought nothing would happen until the morning but as i was walking out of the hospital the contractions started to get very painful and i could hardly walk - the midwife said it was just from all the prodding that had happened and that they should setle down before starting again - so i went home.  Well about 40min after being home the contractions were still there and getting worse, my husband called the doc and said they were 5 min apart and he suggested a warm shower and walking.  Another 30min later they were 4min apart and i could hardly talk or walk so we called the hospital agin and they said to come back in.  When i got there they hooked me up to all the monitors and check me and i was now 6cm.  They continued to monitor for a few hours but nothing more happened so they broke my waters (with a long hook thing - best not to look - not really painfull but more uncomfortable like a pap smear)  I then got an epidural as i was in a lot of pain. When nothing else happened they gave me pitocon sp and this caused my contractions to really increase in power which then caused my little one to have problems with a slugglish heart rate with each contraction - they continued to monitor but were making noises about a c-section if things did not improve soon and i didn't dialate more.  Well after an hour nothing had happened or improved so we made the decision to have a c-section rather than risk an emergency if left longer.  As it turned out by the time i was prepped and ready on the table i was fully dialted and thing with my little one had settled but it was too late and i was numb for the c-section and couldn't push so thats how it went.  As it turned out once delivered my baby she came out with a rush of water so they relised they had only broken my fore waters and that this was one of the reasons tings hadn't progessed the other was that even though she was a c-section she still had a cone head as she was so far down and stuck.
Thats my story and i hope it helps a bit - try not to worry the hospital staff will help you through and let you know what is happening and what to expect every step of the way - if not don't be afraid to ask as you have aright to input and knwo what is happening to your own baby and body.
