yay Im not alone!

I am having a hard time trying to decide what kind of birth control to use too. Ive seen 2 other posts tonight as well, so i know im not alone! except for me its been almost 4 months since my son was born, but at the my 6 week checkup, i was supposed to get the Mirena but I was bleeding way too much, with crazy blood clots(tmi) so they couldnt do it. then when Istopped bleeding a week later, they told me my insurance wouldnt cover it. and it costs 700 dollars. so I had to call the health department and see what they can do. But I didnt get around to it until a week later. turns out the lady that does that, is out with a very bad sickness so they couldnt get me in for another month!.  well ive had two friends have a problem within the last month with the Mirana. So ive decided I dont want that anymore either.  but they just called last week and rescheduled me AGAIN! so now its not till the end of September.  This *****, im using condoms and being careful, but its still scary. and it kinda ruins the moment, when we gotta stop and put one on. lol...

But any now that I dont want the mirena I dont know what else to get. I started birth control when I was 13.  Ive been on seasonal, yaz, yasmin, and some other pill, the depo shot, and the patch.  I dont like ANY of them.  Depo made me gain weight and the patch left scars on me, and I cant remember to take a pill for the life of me, with my schedule.  But I do think it was the Depo shot as to why i didnt get pregnant for so long. i was off all birth control for 4 years before I got pregnant with my son.

So what are some other ideas of birthcontrol I can talk to the lady about,(if they ever get me in), that you guys have tried and really liked?

ammanda- I've been smoking for almost 11 years, and like you have tried to quit, but have failed miserably lol. I was able to quit with my first child, but after I lost her I started smoking even more, and now it's extra difficult to quit. I smoked with my last 3 pregnancies, although I cut back from 2 packs a day to half a pack a day....and i'm still smoking with this pregnancy. I'm hoping the extreme want to breastfeed this time around will help discourage me from smoking.

I never gained any weight on depo..luckily as I know so many women who have. I think if I can stop smoking to breastfeed I will probably use the depo again. Although...i'm not to excited about it as I got pregnant with my youngest DS when using it. But...I know it's the most convenient form for me as of now.

Im kind of in the same boat, I was awful at remembering to take the pill, I still managed to take it it just wasn't ever at the same time. I always took it before bed, but when I went to bed always varied. I probably will go back on the pill I just don't know when. I guess the pill can cause your breastmilk to be not as nutritous (sp?) so I don't want to start it until I'm not breastfeeding. So I don't know what to do in the meantime. Were using condoms right now but they just don't feel as good. So I don't know. I've never been on anything but the pill.

BTS- Ya I'm pretty sure now, that I dont want the IUD, my friend just had to get her surgeically removed, and my sister just had to go in for an u/s cause hers is lost right now.  so screw that.  Ive also been a heavy smoker(except for while pregnant) for like 10 years, I never had a problem with it with any form of birth control that I know of lol..  But I'm slowly trying to quit, its not working at all!!  i dont know anything about the spermacide, maybe ill look it up, but it sounds messy!  Sex is messy enough as it is! lol TMI.  I gained like 20 lbs on the depo.  the patch left scars, my sister hated the nuva ring, so im not gonna mess with that. so im pretty much out of options other then the pill.. but I know deep down how much i dont want another baby any time soon so hopefully that helps with the hole remembering thing. plus ill have DB there yelling at me to take it.  I just gotta figure out what pill to take.  And actually get into the health department to see if I qualify for free birth Control.. I sure hope so, cause im sooo broke! lol...

I have used just about all forms of birth control, except the IUD. I have heard a lot of women have had issues with the IUD, and my DF says the little wire/string that hangs down in the vagina is really uncomfortable during intercourse(his ex had an IUD). I really don't think the IUD is a good form for me. I too am having issues thinking about birth control. I really don't want to get my tubes tied. I was on depo for 4 years and ended up pregnant on it, and I also had what doctors said to be a mini stroke with it. I smoked heavily, and although I have cut way down, I still smoke...and it scares the hell out of me that I might actually have a smoking/birth control related stroke.

I think I am going to try a spermicidal foam/cream, but then again.....that wouldn't make oral very fun for the DF(TMI sorry) lol. But no, your absolutely not alone at trying to figure out what birth control would be right for you. The pill would NEVER work for me, because like you I am very forgetful....DF has to give me my folic acid so I can take it...or I will forget.

I thought about the nuva ring.....but I knew one person who got pregnant on it and one person who had severe side effects from it, so that's probably a no go too.

Joy-Ya thats crazy, i hear of alot of people getting pregnant on the pill, just like DB was a pill baby! lol, ive never put any thought into spermacide, i dont even know what it is or how it works lol.

Losing-Im not sure if my insurance would cover that, especially if they dont cover the Mierana i doubt theyd cover that.  But i really dont want anything they have to place inside of me, that thought scares the hell out of me, plus your supposed to get something like that at your 6 week check-up when your uterus is still open or something. its been 4 months, my sister waited 6 months and said it hurt her soooo bad she was in tears.

Miss- yea when i was on the pill for the very first time when i was 13, i had my cell phone set for the same time everyday.  and I had DB and his whole family yelling at me to take it. lol..  but it was hard to remember, cause i would shut my alarm off and still forget to take it. lol.. i was that talented lol....  and yea i have a friend that was on the Depo for 9 years, and your not aloud to be on it that long.  i think its only for 5 years or something. well they told her she would never have kids cause she was on that too long, so she said okay mide as well get off it, 3 months later she was pregnant!  But yea the depo was the last form i took, i stopped at 15ish about 16, cause i was being a depressed teenager, and my bf moved to Florida so I said id never have sex again hahaha...  but i didnt get on anything else. and I got pregnant at 19 almost 20.  so about 4 years later. and of course I obviously was with other people. lol..  but thank god DB came back from Florida lol.. but anyway, a beeper? they still make those things? lol  aww thats awesome that it worked out for you, and are having a boy.  I def. might want another baby later on but not for atleast 3 or 4 years later.  so I think some sort of pill will be fine, i just dont know what kind, its like everytime i turn around, a new pill is on the tv, causing strokes and crap!

Thats a difficult question, one that I can't give you the answer to, as I have no idea myself. I only have experience with BC pills, which was the same for me; I could never remember them. Though when I first started taking them, my doc gave me this beeper to help remember them, and it was great until it died, then it was all down hill from there. I was also on depo for 5-6 years, and I hadn't been using any methods for four years before getting pregnant either. Those are the only two that I've tried.
My DH is getting fixed after my son is born, as he has two daughters and it took a lot of talking (and a promise of a son, luckily he IS a boy) to get him to agree on having a baby lol. I know that isn't an option for you, at your age and the fact that you only have one child, chances are that in the future you will want another baby.

Have you considered a copper IUD?  I don't really know anything about them but it's not one you mentioned.

Personally, the pill seems to work great for me, never gotten pregnant while on it.  The first several times I was on it I had no problems but this last time it really screwed me up.  I had planned on going with the natural family planning this time.  It's riskier than being on BC but for now it's a chance I'm willing to take.  Though I may change my mind.

Well anytime you use a woman birth control (spermicide, foam, diaphragm, depo, patch, IUD, etc.) you need to have a "back up" preventative measure as well. I have always been told that to prevent pregnancy you need to use two forms of birth control so even if you end up taking a pill or getting an IUD you'll need to use a condom or some other form of birth control for prevention as the pill alone is not 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. I know more women who've gotten pregnant while on the pill then women not using anything, go figure!
