37 weeks pregnant and sore bbs

by amy0013, Nov 06, 2009 07:53PM
I tried to do a search and couldn't find anything...I am 37 weeks pregnant and just noticed my bbs are VERY tender.  They haven't felt this way this since the very beginning of my pregnancy.  This doesn't mean impending labor or anything, does it?  Probably not, since I googled it and couldn't find anything...just curious if anyone else has had this happen at the end of their pregnancy???

Nope, doesn't mean impending labor. Only surefire way to know labor is upon you is if your water breaks and if you're having true labor contractions (which are incredibly painful).

I'm relieved.  With all of the flu stuff going around I want my baby to cook as long as possible and not have a compromised immune system or anything.  :)  Thanks Joy!

I want to add (I sometimes get a little sidetracked, ha ha) that my BBs got sore again in the 3rd trimester and stayed that way until I delivered. Nursing was really tender for me so I want to encourage you, if you plan on BFing, that pain while nursing does NOT always indicate poor latch. Usually they say if baby isn't latched on properly then you'll have pain. The truth is that the latch itself may hurt but once baby starts draining the breast the pain should subside.

I didn't know that with my first two daughters and BFing went down the drain. This time I've stuck with it knowing all of that and am having an amazing BFing experience with Zoƫ. Hope that info helps, even though it has nothing to do with your original question.

Check out this chart on breast tenderness:

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Pregnancy/Pregnancy-Symptom-Breast-Tenderness--Nipple-Soreness/show/1046?cid=98

It looks like roughly 35% women experience breast tenderness in Week 37 and it stays pretty much around that level from Week 31 to 40.
