6 Weeks with bad morning sickness: What did you do that helped?

by maryddn, Dec 01, 2008 10:59AM
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!!!

Sorry I haven't been on since I found out I'm pregnant, still catching up on the posts. This is by no mean a complain, just need your input of what you did that helped.

I'm 6 weeks and 3 days today, and I really need your help how to get food/drink stayed in. I was nauseous before I found I was pregnant, but it got worse and worse. I know I'm being dehydrated b/c my urine is yellow. I just cannot stomach water. I tried to add lemon/sugar/ginger, but still can only manage about 2-3 glass a day, only 2 sips every time. The thought of food makes me vomit. My stomach muscle hurts b/c of all that squeezing to get stuff out every time I'm sick. I don't eat a lot, just a few crackers every time, a couple slices of apples, 1/3 bananas, 1/2 slice of oatmeal toast. I cannot stand the smell of food. Anything that has oil sends me right to the bathroom. After I eat something I have to try hard to hold it in. And this is definitely not a 'morning sickness' but all day long. I know I'm losing weight.

What kind of food you had when you had morning sickness? What kind of crackers/toast? Any drinks that helped also? Do you think I should ask for medication?

Thanks,
Mary

There are anti nausea meds that the dr. can get for you.  The only thing I did was go to the candy store and get lemon drops - not the sour ones but the hard candy type.  It seems like you are trying everything I have heard of -

The best thing that I can suggest is these candies called "preggie pop drops". I got mine at a place called Once Upon a Child. They come in a little jar of 21. You just suck on them and they totally helped me. Luckily my sickness only lasted a few days. Good luck and I hope you start to feel better soon!!!

I was the same as you.... sick ALL THE TIME.... the dr prescribed me Fenigrin (sp) and it worked wonders.... if your sickness is that bad (which it sounds like it) talk to the doc about meds that will help.... other than the meds I lived on Gatoraid and crackers

My doc prescribed Zofran.  Besides that, saltine crackers and ginger ale worked.  I also kept hard candy and dum dum suckers to suck on.  They say to make sure you eat small meals throughout the day, because if your stomach gets empty it makes it worse.  Good luck!  Hopefully it will pass soon for you!

i tried anti nausea wrist bands. i got them at the local pharmacy. people use them for car sickness and the flu. they did help 'relocate' the pain for me so i was more comfortable. i felt like it just got pushed down more but didn't go away. but it might be different for you and might work great, so you could try that.
the sucking on a candy did help for me too so i recommend that too. i also tried popsicles cause the nurse said that works too.
you could try the BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Apple sauce and Toast. i would say try a plain bread, not oatmeal to start. and dry also.  you could try plain noodles. i do spaghetti cause its thin and easier for your tummy to digest. i cheat and put butter on my noodles.  i also try to keep jello on hand too. and i drank powerade or a sports drink cause it keeps up your electrolytes. so maybe those are some new ideas for you try. but if you are still sick in a few days i would think about talking to the doctor.
hope you are feeling better soon!

I had morning sickness so bad up to my 4th month that I lost almost 20 pounds. I was throwing up around 15 times a day. So I feel your pain. The only things that worked for me were... poweraid it kept me hydrated and didn't always stay down, but it was a life saver...jolly ranchers, I kept them everywhere as soon as I woke up I would reach over and pop one in my mouth, I never threw up while eating a jolly rancher...phenegren, the pill form, it didn't take away the nausea, but it did keep me from puking, I just felt like I was going to vomit.

I was just horrible also! I could not eat eat and i could not even stand up without feeling sick. I threw up 5 times one day. I called my Dr's office and they gave me a new vitamin with extra B6 to help. That did not help at all, so i started on 2 flintstones because the actual pill was making me worse. Plus, i was told i could take 50mg B6 up to 3 times a day. I also found that tea was a drink i could handle. Water made me feel worse too. Now i am 8 weeks and i am better. It seems as though every other day i feel sick again! But not as bad as i was. I could also eat rice and plain pasta. When i felt better cheese stayed down and did not upset my stomach extra. I got string cheese because American just sounded gross.
I was also told that Lemon helps, even if you buy a lemon cut it up and take a suck!
Peppermint helps too, i hate real ginger so that didn't do much for me. I did do ok with vernors though.
good luck! Call the Dr too, it is bad to get dehydrated.

Thank you for posting this, I am 7 1/2 weeks and feel so sick too, this gave me some more ideas.
Are taking prenatals yet? If so, that's why your urine is bright yellow. If not, try your best to get some sort of fluid down. For some reason water has been making me sick and
I used to be a big water drinker. I have been able to stomach milk, choc milk, sprit, ginger ale and some juices.

I hear your pain. I was sick for the first 5 month of this pregnancy and lost about 15 pounds. I found that popsicles really helped with me as well as gatoraid. I couldnt hand the preg drops, so I would suggest buying one container and try them first. I also found that milk with ice  seemed to stay down. Try eating ice chips they seem to help.

Good luck! It will be over soon, just make sur eyou get lots of rest.
