Addicted to Painkillers, Pregnant

by MaxSky, Jan 15, 2008 09:50AM
I have been addicted to painkillers for 7 years now. I got engaged last October and have been planning a Nov '08 wedding. A week ago today I found out I was pregnant. Doing the math I think I could be between 4 - 7 weeks. My first gyno appt isnt until next Tuesday. I've slowed down on the pain killers as much as possible without having major withdraws. I am really scared that something is going to be wrong with my baby now. Birth defect, brain damage? Anything... I'm a hypochondriac which is why I'll wean myself off them. I could not live with myself continuing to take painkillers while pregnant. Help...

Who is prescribing them to you and WHY???  I never understood why people become addicted to pain killers.  Of course I have never taken anything stronger than a low dose vicodin, but that was after I had my breast augmentation.

As an adult, I am sure you know what is the right thing to do, you need to seek professional help.  Your Dr. will see you sooner if you inform him or her of your addiction.

I really want to know how you get these pain killers. I have an uncle who was addicted to percocet and is now on methadone, and will be for lord knows how long.  He used to physically hurt himelf on purpose to get them.  Sorry for dragging this up on your thread, just wondering why you need them, is it for physical pain or just because you became addicted to them?
