Am I pregnant? Or is it just registering miscarriage hormones?

by Atlantisea, Mar 30, 2008 08:36PM
I have just done a pregnancy test and I got a faint red line. I think that I conceived on Friday 28th March, and I always show up on tests early.

However, I had a miscarriage recently (bled from the 13th march complete discharge by 20th march) and I am wondering if I could be registering hormones from the last pregnancy?

I feel pregnant already, I woke up with sore boobs yesterday and I know that I ovulated on the 28th as I felt it and tested positive for ovulation.

What do you all think?

Has anyone else tested positive after a miscarriage and not been pregnant?

I really need to feel good about this, but I'm scared I'll get my hopes up and then feel like I've lost another baby...

Lots of women get pregnant right after a m/c. It's a really difficult position to be in because your hopes are soaring after such a tragedy. Pregnancy tests can detect HCG from a previous pregnancy for up to 8 weeks after birth/loss, depending on how high your HCG levels were to begin with.

It's just going to be a waiting game for now because it's too early to see anything on ultrasound and unless you want to pay for blood tests to see if the HCG is rising... you will just have to wait a couple weeks! I hope you are pregnant!!!

i agree, it is a tough time and with such a small time between possible pregnancies it is such a guessing game.  I would think that if you ovulated then your levels would have been pretty low as i didn't think you could ovulate with a high hcg (but then again some people have a period during pregnancies so who knows).  I would go and get a blood test in the next few days and see what your levels are like. Your doc should be able to tell you whether he thinks this is another pregnancy based on your result or you may need another blood test to see if the number doubles.  Good luck.

I could get the blood tests done. I live in Australia, and seeing the doctor (regular GP) is free. So are blood tests, ultra sounds and anything that the doc thinks is needed.
Problem is, I'm a little embarrased to go back and ask, because he reccommended that I wait before I try again and I didn't listen...
Don't know whether to wait or go back.
Might wait 2 days and then test again to see if the line is darker..

You think so?
I guess if I went for a blood test i could get my iron checked again too. I have been taking fefol and elevit (1 each per day) to help get my iron levels back up again, and I don't want them to get too high. I actually feel really good again, so maybe it is time to stop the fefol...

Sounds like a plan but i would wait a few days and then check and go to the doc as it is important to get proper care once pregnant and to know if you need to take special care of yourself.

It took 4 weeks after my miscarriage to get a negative on a pregnancy test and although people can bleed during pregnancy at the time of their period they don't ovulate. So if you got a surge then it is possible that you could of concieved again... but ovulation tests can also double as pregnancy tests as well so that might have detected HCG left in your system. Also 3 days is WAY too early to show + on a pregnancy test. It takes about 5-7 days for the embryo to implant in the uterine lining and only then does the body start producing HCG. But its possible that you got pregnant before 3 days ago as well. I would get a blood test just to make sure that your levels are rising.
