Bleeding 12 weeks non-stop after miscarriage

by carson01, Apr 15, 2008 12:54PM
I miscarried at 9.5 weeks on 1/23/08. Finally 6 weeks after the miscarriage my HCG level went down to a "2" on 3/3/08.  I continued to bleed once my HCG was down to "0" and a ultra sound showed a clear uterus.

My OB put me on the pill which did nothing because I continued to bleed. I stopped the pill after 2 weeks since it was not working. I then had a very heavy period which stopped last Wednesday, well I shouldn't say that because I still had light brown spotting until this morning when I woke up to cramping and red bleeding again. I am confused and don't know what to do. It has been 12 weeks of non stop bleeding whether it be red, brown or maroon in color. I am starting to think there is something really wrong with me but my doctor keeps telling me that my body is taking a while to get back on track...12 weeks and still going???  What if it never gets back on track? I am tired and desperately looking for a second opinion.

I'm so sorry for your loss, your body will get back on track eventaully, every women is different but 12 weeks does seem like a long time, I can't give much advice, maybe try a different Dr?

Thank you for your advice. I just recently called another doctor that specializes in fertility, miscarriages, etc. to possibly get a second opinion on what's going on. My OB seems to think that this new cycle of heavy bleeding is another period (last suspected period was 2 weeks ago and was very heavy as well...I had a 5 day break of very light brown spotting until yesterday morning). My OB is hoping that in 6 to 7 days it will stop. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I can relate to your story.  I had my miscarriage 8 1/2 weeks ago... had to have a D&E since I didn't start bleeding on my own.  I was almost 11 weeks pregnant and went in for sonogram and there was no heartbeat.  Since I had the D&E on February 22nd, I have continued to have brown spotting, some days heavier then others.  I think I did have a period about 2 1/2 weeks ago, since the blood turned red, but within a few days went back to brown spotting again.  My doctor also seems to think it's normal and wants to give it one more cycle before doing any additional tests.  I know exactly how you feel, it's like a never ending nightmare!!!

I had a m/c on 10/27 and bleed from that day til 12/30 and the dr told me 2 that it was normal

Thank you for all of your input. It is good to know that other doctors agree and think that this is not abnormal. UPDATE....I finally stopped bleeding on Sunday 4/20/08, 12 1/2 weeks after the miscarriage D&C. The bleeding lasted from 1/24/08 to 4/20/08.
