Blood Pressure Question

by ftogirl, Apr 30, 2008 09:15AM
Has anyone had your blood pressure go up somewhat during pregnancy but it not be anything serious like pre eclampsia?  I have had some swelling in my feet and ankles that doesn't always go completely away after resting.  My bp is usually around 115/75 or even slightly lower or higher.  Yesterday it read 132/92 so I went in and was checked out.  There was no protein in my urine.  My bp was down to 128/82 and I had only gained 1 lb.  She checked the swelling and based on all that, she felt everything was okay.  And she told me to tell them if I got a really bad headache, face swelled, abdominal pain, or anything like that.  So I don't want to be worrying all the time and waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak.  Do you think I can relax and just figure everything is okay unless I notice other signs?  We did move to a new apartment this past weekend and I wonder if the stress, etc., may have put a little extra strain on my body.

With my first pregnancy 7 yrs ago my blood pressure was always very high and every time i went to see my midwife she would send me staight upto the hospital to be checked over. I always had a lot of swelling to my hands and feet and was sometimes too painfull to walk. I never had pre- eclampsia. I cant remember what my blood pressure was at that time because it was so long ago.

Your bp goes up with stress too. Even if you're not feeling stressed. I drive an hour and 20 min to my OB. When I get there mine is always high. They make me rest before they proceed with the visit. Strange thing is I don't give into roadrage, but that's the only explanation they have for it. Maybe when you get a high reading, rest for about 20  min a dark quite room and then retake it. If you're not having any other symptoms, you're probably fine. I'd watch for them though.....

I have had three trips to the doctors for this, and that was the stress test and monitoring and all the good stuff that goes with it.  three hours of laying that and everything be normal and than the next day it goes down again.. I was 145/110 yesterday and spent five hours in the hospital.. It sucks, esp when I am scheduled to have this baby may 12th.. So dont be scared, I have never had protein in my urine, and all the blood comes back normal.. I found if I am hot, my pressure goes up, or if I have to be sick and I hold it.. But yesterday was not a fun day at all.. So good luck

Thanks everyone!  I think I will just have to try to relax (which is against my nature-LOL) and not worry.  And just hope it all stays okay but keep my eyes open for anything else.  I'm already 34 weeks so if I can just make it a little while longer, things should be good.
