Bronchitis

by misrxstr, Nov 20, 2007 10:41AM
I was diagnosed with Bronchitis and given the Z pack,  this is before I found out I was pregnant. the symptoms have subsided until the meds were finished. Now I have pain in the chest when breathing and a cough that will not go away...If it's Pneumonia, will this hurt the baby....I'm about 5 weeks...I'm worried...

The Z Pack should be fine.  I have taken that while pregnant.  I can't remember if it was my first trimester or not but I really do think that is fine.  I'm not really sure that the pneumonia would hurt the baby.  I think the baby is pretty protected from many illnesses while you are carrying them.  I think the risk for the baby would only be while being delivered (if you were sick at that time).  In cases like that, I think they do C-sections to keep away from skin to skin contact.  But make sure you tell you doctor asap about this so that you can get well.  I've had both at the same time and it is miserable.  I would call your doctor today and see if they can see you and get you diagnosed.  Just make sure to tell them of course about the pregnancy.  Infact, you may want to go to your ob since you are in your first trimester as that is the most critical development period for the baby.
