Brown Discharge for a few days, is it normal?

Brown Discharge for a few days, is it normal?

Hi, I'm currently 5 1/2 weeks pregnant (according to the doc counting from the 1st day of last period) and have been experiencing brown discharge for the past 3 days (not consecutive,  because there was no discharge yesterday) and I'm extremely scared that this may be a sign I may miscarry in the near future.  I asked my doctor and she said brown discharge can be normal, but i'm scared because I miscarried my last baby and this is how it started, but the discharge was a little heavier.  I haven't really had any cramping (only after eating a lot), but i didn't last time either.  Last time, I found out i was pregnant 14 dpo ( nov. 14) and a week later had the brown discharge (nov. 21) (so far this has been the exact same timeline), tested my hcg levels for a week and they continued to rise, had an ultrasound on dec. 6 and saw the heart beating, then another on dec. 13 and saw the heart stopped beating, then passed the baby on dec. 20.  The cramps hadn't started until i was beginning to pass the baby.  Now...the doctor tells me not to worry unless the blood is red or the brown discharge is occompanied with cramps, but I had neither of those before and still miscarried.  I guess I'm wondering if there is anyone out there that has experienced moderate to heavy brown discharge and still continued on with a healthy pregnancy....??

Congrats on getting pregnant again! I have never had the brown discharge before but it might be worth asking your doctor to check your hCg levels and your progesterone levels to make sure that everything is progressing well. Lots of women have been pregnant and had brown discharge and brown is supposed to be considered "old" blood and have been absolutely fine and their babies continue to thrive. I think that it would definitely be worth having the blood tests done to be sure that everything is going progressing like they should!

I am not surprised you are scared and worried.  I am so sorry for your loss.  It is normal to experience brown discharge in early pregnancy and I can honestly tell you that I did so with my first 3 pregnancies, all of which were successful.  If your Dr is agreeable perhaps you could ask for weekly hcg level checks until you can get in for an ultrasound to help ease your worries.

This could be due to implantationt that takes place i think around the 3rd-4th week only you may be a little earlier than your doctor has said. Most people find when they go for their dating scan (12 week scan) that the due date alters a few days either way... If your not expeierencing ant pains then its more than liekly your fine...But yes better to be safe than sorry visit your GP and get weekly hcg levels!  If you continue to get this brown discharge and develop severe pain in the lower abdom then also contact your gp asap this is a sign of possible ectopic pregnancy!!...Good luck =]
