C Sections

Hi gals. So I am almost 8 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I am 5'3 and normally only 110 lbs. I am curious with my petite size will it be more likely that I have a C-Section? I'm nervous about the baby not having enough space to be in the correct position for natural delivery. Thanks! :)

My friends baby is 3 weeks old and my friend has never been over 8 stone in weight her hole life and is roughly 5ft3 - 5ft5 ish and she stayed tiny nearlly the hole pregnancy she had one month left and was roughly only 8 and a half stone (sorry don't know in pounds) until the last month of her pregnancy she ballooned up to 10 stone her belly dropped and went into a natural labour, with a 6 pound 4 ounces gorgeous healthy baby :)

Girl size has Nothing to do with the ability to be able to have a baby vaginally. Take me for example I am only 5'2 and my pre-pregnancy weight was 117. My son is one month old and I am proud to say that I gave birth to him vaginally and he weighed 8 pounds 3 oz and was 20 and a half inches long.

Don't get me wrong I was very worried at the begining as well as you because I wasn't sure if I would be able to push him out. I was terrified of the word "c-section" just the thought of there being a possibility of me having to have one made me sick to my stomache. But in the end it doesn't matter trust me. You'll be too focused on just having a healthy baby that c-section or vaginal doesn't matter.

Ohh and also should I mention that I had to have an episotmy (spelling??) Done. It was to the 4th degree.. But now I am 4 weeks postpartum and I am feeling better then ever :)

If you wanna talk I am here ;) send me a message

I don't think your height has anything to do with it what's important is the size of your pelvis. Me personally I'm 5' 1" and my pelvis was too tiny to deliver my 8lb. 4oz. Babies so on may 4th I go in for my 3rd c-section, but don't be scared if you did end up needing one it's not that bad. When you get further along talk to your ob about it and tell them your concerns. Good luck

As others said, size has nothing to do with it. I'm 5'2 and tiny as well (currently 100 pounds) and gave birth to my daughter vaginally with extremely minimal tearing. She weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces and was 20 inches long. (PS, so you know the stone conversion. There are 14 pounds in 1 stone, so 8 stone equates to 112 pounds)

And baby actually goes into proper position long before birth. Most babies are head down the entire time and have room to flip all the way up till birth. My daughter was breech up till 24 weeks and then flipped head down sometime after that. Once they go head down they don't often flip back into the wrong position.

I'm 5ft 2 and around 8st, the biggest bub I have had was 9lb 1oz, the smallest 7lb 5oz, no tearing, epesiotomies etc,  the trick is to keep active and moving, do not lie on your back on a bed if you can help it, and use the shower for pain relief, and lots of pekvis rocking to get bub into optimal postion when in labour :)

I'm 5'0" and pre-pregnancy was 120 lbs.  We were planning on a vaginal delivery (we were actually planning on a natural delivery) and my body could have done it (as far as size goes).  But I went into labor early (at 36 weeks) due to preeclampsia and my baby's heart rate was dropping with each contraction, so I had to have an emergency C-section.  He's now almost one week old and cute as a little button and healthy - 6 lbs even.  But to answer your question - your height doesn't determine whether or not you can deliver vaginally.  Good luck!
