CASTOR OIL???

hello, ok first of all I could never drink that nasty ****!! UGH! But I was wondering has anyone ever heard of castor oil actually helping induce labor? If so how the heck does that happen? I just dont see how taking a laxative would induce.. Well I just wondering if it actullay helped anyone or if you knew anyone that it did help.

dont think you want to , my sister drank it and she was so sick throwing up for a whole day and night, no it did not throw her into labor, just made her very sick.

hi, my mum drank a half a glass mixed with orange juice and with in 4-5 hrs was in labour with my lil sis, a family friend also did the same before she went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night in labour. so im not sure how or why but it does work :)

A friend of mine did that also. She was overdue and it worked! I would not recommend doing it without your doc knowing though. They can tell you how much you should take. I think my friend just had to take 2 tablespoons. But it can work for some women!! =)

I have heard but am not very sure, my aunts used to say that castor oil is laxative but also induces some kindda heat in the body may be that's what induces the labor. I have heard eating spicy food like thai or Indian food will also induce labor!!

I drank it straight down with #2.  I just chugged it.  Never got contractions, but it didn't upset my belly either.

It is said that all castor oil does is cause stomach upset.  The stomach and intestinal upset causes pressure on the uterus which causes contractions.....

I was told to never use castor oil to induce labor since it could hurt the baby by causing fetal stress. Not sure if its really true but I wouldn't risk it.

hmm...I dont think I could handle drinling it lol!!! I was just wondering did it work.. It is so thick UGH!!!! makes me nauseated just thinking about it going down! But I guess from reading above its diffrent for everyone

I have no clue how it works!!! LOL! When women first started talking about drinking Castor Oil I thought they were talking about car fluid! I was like, "DON'T DRINK THAT!!! That's OIL!" Needless to say, I felt like a doofus when they explained what it was.

Every single person I've heard who's taken it just got REALLY sick!

well dang it seems like maybe i should try it lol I just dont like being nauseated the going to the bathroom I can handle lol everyone needs a good cleaning out every now and then lol but the puking ugh I just cant handle it!!! lol im a big baby yea i know

yea im a couple days overdue the dr said he will induce next week but, I wanted to do it naturally obviously castor oil is not natural lol I know sex works but my hubby just got back from his chemo tretment and he cant do that rigth now! ugh! But I also heard stimulating your nipples can do it too but how does that work and how does it suppose to be done lol? do I squeeze them massage them, or what? Im confused lol

I used evening primrose oil. You are supposed to put it on your cervix, but I used to swallow the pills. Also I moved right before I had my last son and that did it....lifting stuff your not supposed to( not doctor recommended:)  move your living room furniture around...nesting I think they call it:)

My doc stripped my membranes and we had sex when I got home later. I had my daughters (two diff. pregnancies) the next day. I had one a little after 9 AM and the other after 7 PM.

So maybe at your next appointment you can ask them to do that? They have to do it anyway for induction!

A family member of mine used caster oil and it worked for her.  My aunt swears by it and she had 6 kids.  I don't think that it doctor recommened though.

well I did break down and do the castor oil thing... I am still prego!! i have had some slight contractions and spotting but dr said it was normal...... i have not dilated at all! which is so crazy cause i am in severe pain alot!!any more ideas?

i did the castor oil thing. i was gross. i was 1 1/2 weeks overdue and scheduled to be induced the following week as well.  my hubby was so sweet and took it with me.  i had diarea (diarrhea) for a couple of hours, and then nothing. i ended up going into labor the night before i was scheduled to be induced.  i think the baby wanted to come out naturally.

anyways, congratulations. you'll see your baby soon. let us know how everything goes.

Well nothing helped!!! I ended up getting induced a week later I had a beautiful 7lbs 13 oz 21 inc long daughter on mArch 12th~~ Just lettin everyone know thanks for al the advice and support!!

hi i took castor oil with my first pregnancy,i had it early afternoon then i was back and forth to the bathroom for a couple of hours then around 9.30 i got little pains in the stomach and at 10.30 my water broke,my son Brandon was born at 4.49 the next morning.My mother in law recommened it to me she had taken it but let me tell you it was gross it still gives me a horrible taste in my mouth when i think of it...........YUK
