CVS or amniocentisis

Has anyone had one of these tests? If so, did everything turn out fine? They say they can cause miscarriages.

Hi there.  I have amnio at about 16 weeks.  I did an awful lot of research before hand on the procedure, the perinatologist performing the test and the clinic.  I asked an awful lot of questions.

The rate of complications with amnio is 1:400.  It is slightly higher with cvs, about 1:300.  Now, this is the National average here in Canada, and I believe it is the same in the US.  But after "interviewing" the clinic I went to, I discovered that my Dr's rate of complications and the clinics was about 1:1600.  He was very very experienced.  After all the info gathering and conversation, I personally felt very comfortable proceeding.  If you like, I am happy to share my experience with you.

I am neither an advocate for nor against either procedure.  It is a highly personal decision, and one only you and your partner should make after doing your homework.  There is always the possibility of a complication (miscarriage), and you need to feel comfortable with the risk prior to proceeding.

Best of luck in whatever you decide, and if you have any questions at all, I am more then happy to answer them for you.
