Can I use Dreft in a High Efficiency (HE) washer? Answer.

by cminamyer, Jan 23, 2009 04:49PM
I know people have asked this question before, and I don't know if it was answered or not.  I went to the dreft website and found this answer:

Can I use Dreft in a High Efficiency (HE) washer?

"We don't recommend using Dreft in a high efficiency (HE) washing machine. HE machines need low sudsing detergents and if regular detergent is used, the excess suds could lead to washer problems. Unfortunately, just using a smaller amount of regular detergent does not fix the issue. Only the use of a HE detergent ensures the proper performance of your washer.

If you have an HE washing machine, look for 2x Ultra Tide HE Free, which is made without dyes or perfumes."

Has anyone used the tide or other dye free HE stuff on there baby clothes, how did it go?

I used Dreft in my "HE" washer already.  I guess I have never heard that before.  You can use any detergent in them...just use less.  I started out with leftover detergent when we got the washing machine, and I just used 1/2.  We've had them for over 2 years, so it may be a long term issue, but nothing has gone wrong yet.  Hmmmm!

I had asked that question awhile ago, and I'm glad that you posted an answer from Dreft's website.  You can't use any detergent in the HE washers, they have to specially formulated for HE washers.  I"ve had mine stop because of excess suds before, and it ruins the motor.  I was already looking into the dye and perfume free detergents for when baby comes.

Yeah, I have been wondering this and I knew someone had asked so I did a google search and checked the Dreft site and came up with this.  I was going to wash all of the baby's stuff in Dreft first then try and switch to reg. detergent and see if she had a reaction.  But there is so much stuff to wash before she's born, I didn't want to start off with regular stuff and have her skin break out and have to re-wash ALL of it... I use cheer but I'm not sure if they have a hypo in HE...  You would think someone would come out with HE baby stuff.

jenntanis - let me know if you find something that works, and I'll do the same.

I use dreft in my he washer. I do small loads so it doesnt get too sudsy. I think I will switch to something else when I know Jaxson has no allergies. He is 8 days old now, so I will wait until he is like 3 months old before I switch, but in the meantime, I use it in my HE, I guess I never thought about it too much! =)
