Can an infection cause your water to break?

Can an infection cause your water to break?

Warning this might be a TMI question...

So just over 34 weeks and on the tributaline home pump to control the contractions. I started antibiotics last Monday and over the last few days I thought I came down with a yeast infection. I used monistat and tried eating yogurt, but it's getting worse. So now today I've been having bad contractions all day. Twice the nurses have had me give myself a extra dose of meds.

So here's the info on the infection and the TMI portion of my problem. At first the discharge was similar to a yeast infection and now it's like brownish/yellow, I have itching, and achey (achy) pain down low similar to when I had a UTI. It also burns a little when I pee.

I'm going to mention it to the nurse when she calls me back after my next monitorning session is done in an hour. I'm just wondering what the medhelp moms think. My ob won't be open until Monday, but should I maybe call the on call dr tomorrow and mention this? I'm only worried because I'm 34 weeks and dialated to 2. I'm afraid any type of infection could cause my water bag to break.

Well, you definitely need to make sure your doctor, not just the nurses are monitoring you CLOSELY. Because not only can it cause labor, BUT It can also spread to the bag and the baby and that's the last thing you need. They need to test you to see if it truly is a yeast infection or maybe something more serious. That may be why the meds for a yeast infection aren't working.

i agree- could be a bacterial infection or something else.
