Can i ask to be induced

Can i ask to be induced

i am 34 weeks pregnant and have been having severe period like pains for the
last week. ive been to the hospital and they said i wasnt in labour and to see
how it goes for a while. i was just wondering if i culd ask my midwife or
consultant if i could be induced due to the pains, and if so would they do it ?

Even if you asked they most likely wouldn't induce until about 38 weeks +. They wouldn't at all induce at 34 weeks since the baby isn't considered term and there aren't any complications. Towards the end of pregnancy its common to have bad BH contractions. Hence why you always hear about people going to the hospital in false labor. Realistically its just one of those pregnancy things you have to deal with.

They will not induce at 34 weeks unless there was a significant risk to the baby. Sorry to say you are going to have to ride this out a few more weeks. Godo Luck to you

its better to deal with the pains for a few weeks than have a baby in the nicu for a few weeks. hang in there.

Most doctors will not induce till 39 weeks unless there is a risk to mom or baby to continue pregnancy. Your baby's lungs are not mature enough yet and if you were to deliver s/he would have to be in the NICU. Maybe you should ask your midwife to advise you on a way to manage your pain for the next few weeks.

Many doctors will not induce you until your due date unless there is a medical necessity posing a high risk to you or baby.  Even born at 36 weeks your baby has a risk for premature lungs resulting in respiratory distress.  Unfortunately the end of pregnancy is NOT comfortable but its far better to deal with the pains and discomfort for the next month and a half than to have a potentially ill baby in NICU.  As feather2e suggested, speak with your midwife about ways to manage the discomfort.

I feel as though I'm beating this issue into the ground, but no doctor is going to induce you unless either you or your baby is in danger.  Pain/discomfort doesn't fall into this category.  At 34 weeks, your baby's lungs aren't fully developed, and he/she would need to stay in the hospital for several days/weeks to be monitored.
