Christmas Eggnog

Christmas Eggnog

My friend and I have been debating over having eggnog while pregnant.  She is 10-11 weeks along and I am 6 weeks along.  Is eggnog okay to drink if you don't over due it?

I know this may be a silly question but neither of us can find an answer... and we both really like eggnog and it only comes around once a year :(

All of what I read say that alcohol is unknown in amounts to be safe, during pregnancy.. so therefore it is flat-out banned. I don't think having just one is going to really seriously hurt the baby although most just wouldn't take the risk. I know there are women out there who have drank considerably throughout and had a nice healthy baby, but just because it happened to them, doesn't mean it's going to happen to you. I don't think it will completely ruin your chance of having a healthy baby, but the risk is still there, and if you want to take it, it's your choice.. But I think in extreme moderation, shouldn't be too harmful. Maybe you could sneak just a tiny bit. But I'm no expert on this!

I didn't mean spiking the eggnog with alcohol... sorry... Just straight eggnog, maybe with a bit of sprite or 7up.  We were debating it because of the eggs and if there cooked or not.

Little bit should be fine, might give you a tummy ache if you drink too much

I would check with the doc on that one because I do think it is raw eggs.  From what I understand it can cause salmonella and also toxoplasmosis.  That is pretty serious.  Any cat owners have to be checked asap and can cause severe problems in the unborn child.  Raw eggs give you more of a chance of getting food poisoning.  The effects of food poisoning can be harmful to the baby and even cause miscarriage.  I would really see what doc thinks.
