Cold Medicine while in 1st trimester

Cold Medicine while in 1st trimester

So I have developed a nasty chest cold. I have been taking Sudafed PE...which I quit taking because the PE version is not considered safe during pregnancy. So the DB got dayquil cold and flu gel caplets...and I am concerned on whether I can take it or not.

I need something for chest congestion, nasal congestion and cough. I like the multi symptoms stuff because I don't feel like taking 5 different medications throughout the day and night.

I also would only be taking it 2 times a day....once in the AM and once at night.

Everyone has different takes on this including doctors.  But, it is to my understanding that you can only take regular strength tylenol (plain not cold) during your first trimester.  I had a cold too I was told by my doctor to tough it out I couldn't take anything aside from the above before 13 weeks, and to call with a fever.  Other than that only natural remedies are safe.  Then during your second you can take a few more cold meds.  For sure double check with your doctor.  Also, there is this site safefetus.com where you can enter in the name and see the risk of the med.  Good luck hope you feel better soon!
