Correct Due Date?

by Heart Hiccup, Oct 03, 2007 05:50PM
I am 15 wks pregnant, on my first trip to to OBGYN he did a pelvic exam and said that I was about 10 weeks along.  I was just wondering how accurate pelvics usually are in determining the due date.  I havent had an ultrasound yet to confirm his prediction.

They feel your stomach to see where your uterus is measuring and based on where it is that is how they determine how far along you are. I would imagine that it is pretty accurate since it hasn't been off with mine plus they do that to determine if the baby is measuring big or not.

Thanks for the answer.  I feel like he is right, I just wanted to get someone else's opinion.  This is my first pregnancy, so I am full of questions.

Hi- uterus measurements have a certain amount of accuracy, but the ultrasound should give you a really good idea.  They will measure the uterine sac and take several measurements of the baby itself that will give you a pretty accurate due date.  (The earliest ultrasound measurements are usually the most accurate) Sometimes it is hard to feel confident about an exact date if you don't know your last period or your ovulation date. If you do know you lmp and the dates he gave you seem to measure up, I would trust that date!  Hope that helps!
