Dentistry While Preggers?

by BTS1022, Aug 23, 2008 02:26PM
So I have a genetic issue with my teeth, everyone in my family has gotten dentures before they were 25, due to being born without enamel. There isn't anything that will save my teeth. Anyways I am 32w4d and I have a molar that is decayed and falling out. It is nasty. (TMI) I have blood and puss oozing out of it. I was wondering what the chances were of a dentist pulling it out while being pregnant? I know I cannot have the x-rays done, but do any of you thingk I can find someone to safely pull out the tooth?

there has to be somethig that they can do so that the infection doesnt get into the blood stream and to the baby . and you can get x rays just not in your first trimester. i have 2 more weeks to get out of my first trimester tahn i have my dentist appt. as long as ur ob clears you for that xray yoou are ok but a dentist will not see you without a note from your ob. i had a filling that fell out and it is killing me when i eat or drink anything. so im waiting to get it filled in again .. i would call your dentist and ask them what they can do for you . better than being in pain . cause they can at least give you an anotibotic for the infection (puss) .. i hope all gets better for you .

You can have x-rays done, but if you are oozing that is indicative if an infection which will have to be dealt with PRIOR to extracting the tooth. Anesthesia does not work in infected areas of the mouth.

I have had 2 fillings (one rather large) and x-rays during my pregnancy. Just be sure your dentist/oral surgeon knows you are pregnant, and they will take the best and safest route!

OH. And I had ALL of this done my first trimester..

Good luck!

they say that your second trimester is the safest for dentist work but you can always call your dentist to see what they can do.

i know i was told i could even be put out to get a tooth pulled during my second trimester.

I had a tooth pulled this pregnancy. They did not give any pain killers which was fine with me but they did pull the molar. I have the same exact problem you do... with my teeth. I've had a lot of dental work this pregnancy. Its safer to have it taken care of then to let it get infected and then that lead to more complications.
