Depression???

by sailorCMD, Feb 25, 2009 06:38AM
I am 23 weeks pregnant with my first child. A girl. I was recently started on Zoloft for fear that I am suffering from depression and or will suffer from depression due to it having taken place on both sides of my family and on my partners family.  I was wondering what are some of the real  problems with taking this drug and should I stop its use during my third trimester???

Hi, have you spoken to your doctor about taking this drug? You probably should consult the doctor first before taking any drugs as they might  have side effect on the baby. Furthermore, you are not having depression, but just suspecting it. Trust me you will be fine. Being a mother is the most wonderful thing that could happen, there is no reason you will suffer from depression. Just keep a big smile on your face, ok?

Ok, yeah don't listen to the above poster about being fine. Only you know when u are fine. I do however hope that your doctor knows u are taking this drug. I too took zoloft while pregnant with my first DD. I was depressed and was afraid of PPD.
My DD is fine. There are very minimal side effects with zoloft. Do talk to your doctor however.

I asked for something around that time beauase i knew i was getting depressed i was in the hospital at that point and they sent a physcoligist to speak to me who said i was "fine"...i knew i wasn't, a month later it progressed to severe anexity attacks which my husband had to rush me to the Dr. My Dr was very upset that i wasn't given something when i asked for it and said that i was a bigger/better person for recognizing that i needed help then just brushing it aside.

Yeah I guess I don't know what I was talking about, having suffered from depression before and lost a sister last year who has suffered from it too ... So do think that you are depressed. But please make sure you speak to a doctor before taking the drug.

Hope you are well.
