Dizziness, faintness, vision disturbance

by Red1201, Dec 18, 2007 10:17PM
I have been having episodes on faintness and dizziness.  I thought maybe I was hypotensive, and I still might be.  But yesterday, I was talking to a sales clerk when I all of a sudden couldnt see her and I felt numb and tingly.  It was extremely scary.  I had to get help over to a chair and get some water and wait about 20 minutes.  What could possibly be wrong?

1) are you pregnant? If so how far along are you?
2) You may need to eat small snacks through out the day have you checked your sugar
3) if you are pregnant, I had the problem from 16 weeks till delivery with my son 2nd child. We never did find out what was wrong. I passed out a few times. I experienced the exact same thing while i was working. They did so many test but everyone came back fine. My labor was induced but at 41 weeks I had a 8lbs 8 oz healthy baby boy.
So best of luck to you and take it easy. by the way cheese crackers and orange juice helped me alot.......

I had eaten about 1-1 1/2 hours before that.  And yes, I did have a headache.  Even after the 20 minutes, my mouth was really dry, I was shaky and a slight, annoying headache.  Thanks for the quick response!

I am pregnant, and I am exactly 5 months.  I didnt have this with my first pregnancy, but I know that every pregnancy is different.  I do probably need to just eat small snacks.  I havent had my sugar checked.   Although I hate to hear that you went through passing out and stuff, I am glad to hear that you had a healthy baby boy.  That just scared me really bad, so I wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with that.  How was your blood sugar during your pregnancy?

I experienced the same thing when I was about 11 weeks along. I would be standing and than all of a sudden I'd start feeling sick to my stomach...get dizzy and feel like I was going to pass out. I'd see black spots. I would need to sit down immediately and when I did I would start to sweat like you wouldn't believe! My head would feel so heavy...It just felt awful! My mouth would also be soo dry like I was dehydrated...it would take 15-20 minutes of me sitting down, drinking water and nibbling on something to make me feel better. It was soo scary! I ended up miscarrying at 13 weeks, but it was still very scary. I think I'm going to have my blood sugar level tested next time I'm pregnant. But good luck to you, I hope you feel better!

Luckily my blood sugar came out fine. I never had any thing come back that could be a result to the dizziness and fainting. The ONLY thing that came back positive is the group b strep. I tried to find info on that but the only thing i could find was its harmful to the baby but not the mother and they will treat you for it when you go in labor. With my first (my daughter) it was the easiest thing ever I had no morning sickness no dizziness nothing. I have no clue as to why that happened to me. I hope that everything comes back good for you especially your sugar that is def not good for either of you. Maybe its just a case like mine was and it will all go away after you have your baby. Try to stay clear of blunt objects until you get it staightened out though and be safe.

Thanks so much.  Sounds like you went through something very similar and everything turned out fine and you were able to learn how to cope with it.  I appreciate the support.

First of all, I want to say that i am so sorry you miscarried.  I know that was VERY tough!  I know that they test blood sugar around 24 weeks, so I am sure they will check it at my next appointment.  We will see.  Im sure everything will be fine!  And once again, I am sorry about the miscarriage.  Thanks so much for your comments!

It could be that you have pregnancy anemia. I know when I was around that time I would get dizziness and hot flashes and almost black out. Turns out my iron levels were low. The doctor put me on iron suppliments for it and I haven't felt dizzy like that since.

Thanks for your comment.  I actually went to the doctor today...I am doing the sugar testing in the morning, along with other blood test (hopefully anemia will be one of them).  I know that I was checked for that at maybe my first or second apt, but i have read that it can sometimes come up later in pregnancy.  I was on Iron supplements with my last pregnancy, so that could be it.  Thanks again!
