Doc upped my zoloft to 100mg......

by mamaof6, Apr 10, 2009 12:52PM
Well, I started on zoloft a few months ago, b/c I have horribly anxiety and panic attacks. It got to the point I was getting depressed. So they put me on 50mg which helped alot. In the past week or so, it has come back as before. She upped my dosage today. to 100mg. I asked if it woul harm the baby, she said no- its her job to protect baby and maother and she wouldnt give me anything that would hurt the baby. Has anyone else taken this much in their pregnancy? If so, was the baby alright? Thx!

Zoloft is a Class C medication which means that studies in animals show it does not harm the fetus but no adequate studies are documented in humans.  Birth defects etc are a non-issue when taking Zoloft after the 1st trimester.  When taking an SSRI your baby might suffer  withdrawal symptoms after birth and will be monitored for that - you are on a relatively small dosage so there is a good chance this will not happen (or will be very minimal).

You can also ask your doctor about vistaril - this will help control any panic attacks you might have during the remainder of your pregnancy if you still have some problems with them.  It is the pregnancy-safe version of Xanax.
