Does Antibotics reduce the effectivness of condoms??

by CB1989, Sep 05, 2009 05:10PM
My gf is taking Citpro for UTI and i was wondering if that falls under that list of antibiotics that reduce the effectiveness. One last question could a girl get pregnant in the bathtub with precum floating around?

Why would antibiotics affect a condom?

by GRose, Sep 05, 2009 09:16PM
No and.....No, the sperm would not survive in water.

Check your title.

Anitbiotics can reduce the effect of birth control pills, this is something to do with the interactions of the two medications. Anitbiotics would have no effect on condoms. Also, I agree with GRose, the water would most likely kill the sperm as does air.
If there are still any concerns that she may be pregnant she can take a home pregnancy test as soon as she misses her period or as early as 14 days after you think she may have conceived.

Condoms are not a 100% effective and neither is birth control.  I've had 3 friends get pregnant while taking birth control and 1 friend get pregnant using condoms.  The odds maybe low but it happens all the time.  If you're that worried, then maybe you shouldn't be having intercourse.  Oral is always safe (if you don't want a baby).   ;)

sperm can live outside the body anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the conditions it is in.

and condoms are NOT 100% effective. she can still get pregnant if you use condoms.

well doesn't sperm die in hot conditions? hence the scrotum is outside the body? b/c the water was hot?
