I have a friend who is about 18 weeks pregnant and drinks a few odoul's (Non-alcoholic beer) a day. It has .04% of alcohol per beer. She claims that what she is doing is fine and will not harm her baby because there are doctors that say you can drink a glass of wine every once in a while and not cause harm to your baby. I say she is causing her baby harm because it is alcohol, regardless of the alcohol content. She also recently found out that her baby has PartialPartial (focal) seizure Partial thromboplastin time (ptt) Thyroid gland removalTrisomyDown syndrome 18? Even after finding this out, she continues to drink. Who is right? And what can I try to say to her to get her to change her ways for the sake of her unborn child.
It's a hard thing to take..... so maybe her having the TASTE of beer is her way of calming down at the end of a day... even tho there's so little alcahol (alcohol), even in several that it won't affect her as a true %5-6 alcahol (alcohol) beer would.
Basically she's been told her baby may die, or will be born with some sort of defects like heart problems...
If you like... even tho my case isn't the same as hers, if she has email, please ask her to email Cindie at martikadragoon (at sign@) msn.com I'm 22 years old and have a beautiful 10 month old boy with T21 or Down Syndrome. He's had heart and thyroid problems.
(no spaces, and just the @ sign in the middle). Trisome of any kind, like I said is a hard thing to swallow... she might want someone to talk to who's delt with something similar.
#3~ to Smjmekg, as long as an achahol has either under a %1 or .5 of alcahol (alcohol) (I can't remember which) it's legal to call it "non alcaholic" so it should be SAFE.
Some-most dr.'s say wine is safe during pregnancy... typically wine has anywhere between %11-17 alcahol (alcohol) content! That's DOUBLE to TRIPLE a beer!! (5-6%) per glass. So if that's considered "safe"... then wouldn't something with super tiny amts of alcahol (alcohol) be safe??
Imagine how much alcahol (alcohol) is in mouthwash..(WAY MORE since ppl can get drunk off fairly little amt's of it). SOME of that gets absorbed into your blood stream when you swish unless you get the kind with no alcahol (alcohol).
Personally~ I have a son with Trisome 21 or down syndrome.... I am pregnant with #2. On occasion now that I"m in my 2nd trimester... I plan on having a glass of wine. I had my first today and didn't like the taste much so I'm gonna go with something better tasting and less alcahol (alcohol) content (I got one with only %8 alcahol (alcohol)). :) My doctor always said it was fine and that it helps the mom relax a bit but isn't enough to really cause danger.
#1, trisome 18 or trisome of ANY kind isn't caused by the mothers lifestyle when she's pregnant... it happens at the moment of conception.
#2~ Trisomy 18 is almost always a fatal dx.
it's a 1:3000 chance.
