Excessive Bleeding and Cramping

Hi!
My period usually goes on for about 5 days, with the heavier days at the beginning and then lightening up around day 3 - and I never have cramping or pain. However, currently, I'm on my 8th day of an extremely heavy period and my stomach is killing me! Should I be concerned? Should I call the doctor? My mom says I should take a pregnancy test to see if its an ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage or something.

How many pads have you been going through each hour/day?
I've been going through a few pads a day and when I pee it gets pours ( not to gross you out, but I don't know how else to communicate it accurately).
Also, the lower abdomanal pain seems to be getting worse by the minute. My gyn told me to start my birth control early, so I did. However, these symptoms haven't changed.
