Factor V Ledien

by guatmommy, Oct 10, 2007 12:39PM
Just curious if anyone else has this blood disorder.  I had a pulmonary embolism in 1997 and shortly after I was diagnosed w/ Factor V (Clotting disorder).  Well I am 6+ wks preg and I have been on 1 shot of 40mg Lovenox per day.  I just switched ob's and she is sending  me to a high risk perinatologist.  She spoke with him today and he wants me to take 2 shots of 40 mg lovenox per day.  Just curious if anyone else has this and how you are treating it during preg.

Thanks

I have factor V homozygous (double copy of the gene)  i lost my 1st pregnancy from a clot in my placenta, thats how they found out i had it. during my next pregnancies i also took 40mg of lovenox (yellow pre-filled syringe if i remember correctly) once a day. i also went to a high risk clinic. both of my pregnancies were scheduled inductions. my son was at 37 weeks and my daughter at 39. i had to stop the shots a few days before delivery so i would be able to clot after delivery. i now have to healthy children 9 yrs and 6 yrs. i got my tubes tied after my last one,the doctor said the older i get the higher risk i would be and that it is not safe for me to have anymore children. my hemotologist now tells me with the homozygous i was lucky to have 2 children so i am very blessed :) i wish the best of luck to you and your family

I am not sure how much I can help but both my sister and mother have factor V liden (I tested negative). My mom had three children , no miscarriages and minimal complications other than two of her children were about two months early. She never even found out she had it until we discovered my sister did and we all got tested. My sister has had two healthy pregnancies, one lost at around 24weeks due to a huge blood clot, a blighted ovum, one m/c and also lost a twin pregnancy before ten weeks. Her doctors here at the high risk place treated her with lovenox while pregnant and after each m/c. She also has a greenfield filter in place to prevent any clots from reaching her brain (after her first daughter was 2-3 months old she was hospitalized with considerable blood clots in both legs). They have also suggested she not have any more children (even after she had just the one). She was seen at Cleveland clinic where they claimed that they would be happy to see her through another pregnancy although they didnt, instead the high risk MD here saw her through. I don't believe she is on any medication at this time, I know she cannot be on birth control and once she suspects pregnancy they start the lovenox immediately.
The doctors claim that any pregnancy she loses before the 12 week mark can pretty much be blamed on the factor V.
