Hi all. My beautiful girl is 5 months old. She is breastfed but also gets a bottle or two a day. I still haven't got a period and was wondering how long after your babies were born that you got it when breastfeeding
I didn't get mine with my 2nd pregnancy (2006) until she was pratically totally weaned after I'd started back to work. So that was at about 6 months pp. Prior to that she was like yours primarily breastfed and some supplementation. I can't recall exactly when it started back with my first pg (2001) but it was also after he was having much more formula than breastmilk. Still nursing my newborn
With my first son, I got my period back at 6 months PP - I was exclusively BFing for the first 3 months, then started supplementing with formula until he was completely weaned at 6 months of age.
With my second son, I pretty much exclusively BFed until 11 months PP. I got my first period in November 2010 when he was 10 months old. At the point that period came back, I was only BFing him twice a day in the morning. He is now completely weaned and my cycles are regular again.
When she was around 10 months old. I exclusively breastfed but when I started solids and she wasn't nursing through the middle of the night anymore is when it happened for me. You need to have at least 6 hours of no nursing consistently for your period to start back up again.
I was going well over 6 hours between feedings for MONTHS before my period came back both times....I think the 6 hours is simply a guideline, it doesn't apply to all women (clearly not to me, anyway, lol)
I exclusively BF my DD till she was 1, when she was 11 months I got my first period, skipped the next one and then got pregnant!! I thought since I skipped a period that I wasn't ovulating and my body was still messed up, I was wrong! :)
if you don't want to get pregnant you can go on birth control, or make sure and use protection! HTH!!
Good question. I was wondering the same thing. I exclusively breastfeed and still haven't gotten my period either. I have heard from many that it may start back once your baby starts sleeping through the night or when they start eating solids or cereals. The 6 hour thing must be a guideline because Brady will sleep for 6 hours from the time he goes down, gets up and feeds and sleeps and goes about every 3 hours after that.
I like not having it but then I don't because I never know if and when I'll ovulate. And I'm not on any birth control so yeah I potentially could end up being THAT person!! LOL
THAT person.. lol Nothing wrong with it but where I live... so much dram and people in others buisness, I couldnt handle being that person.
s for birth control, I was on the mini pill from 2.5 months pp till just about a month ago (my hubby was overseas till 3 months pp so no bc was needed) Now we are using condoms
