Flying with the worst morning sickness ever

by NicMom, Jan 20, 2009 06:41PM
My morning sickness kicked in yesterday. Its pretty much like an all day all night puke fest. Next week I am flying to Florida for a little vacation and it's about a 4 hour flight from where I live. Does anyone have suggestions on how to cope with a flight while having horrible morning sickness??? I'm almost sure that I am going to puke on someone. I just started zofran today, but I don't know yet how well it will work.

Thanks

they say zofran is really strong but it didnt work for me. I'd recommend taking some crackers and if they offer sprite drink some. Also try sleeping on the plane. If ur not awake u cant be sick. All those worked for me when i was prego with dd and flying.

I agree with darkestlight; take some crackers and hope for the best :) Ahhh, the great benefits of being pregnant! Good luck!

That's so funny!  My husband and I are flying to Florida on Thursday and it's also about a 4 hour flight for me!  I just called the clinic to see what I should do as I am only like 4 weeks and although I don't have morning sickness yet, I get severe motion sickness when I fly.  He told me to take an over the counter, generic, travel sickness medication.  The active ingredient is "Meclizine"  The pills are 25 mg but they said a starting dose would be 12 mg or half a pill.  I looked it up and it's sometimes used for morning sickness as well and is a category B in pregnancy just like Zofran.  A little bottle of 100 pills (insane as I will only need like 4 max) was under $5.

My friend has been on Zofran for all of her pregnancies due to massively severe sickness, and when she flew with her first pregnancy she was about 2 to 3 months along and was told to take her Zofran as well as Dramamine.  I have heard mixed reviews about Dramamine during pregnancy, but I guess the bottom line is to just call into your clinic and see what your doc says. I didn't even have to go in, I just told the phone nurse about the situation and she took care of it with the doctor and called me back.  From the sounds of it there are quite a few options during pregnancy so hopefully they can help you!  Hope you enjoy Florida!! I'm from ND and it's like 45 below wind chill here...needless to say we are pretty excited!!! Yea!! Good luck!

Sorry I just realized you are only talking about morning sickness not the motion sickness.  That being said I think if the zofran is supposed to work you should know right away. I could be wrong but I don't think it's something you have to build up in your system or anything....Anyway again good luck to you!

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll take a zofran right as I get on the plane and it will last the whole trip. I wish my dh and I were on the same flight. I had a dream last night that I was sitting in the middle seat between two people that didn't shower and it was making me sick. It was pretty funny I woke up feeling nausious.

Zofran worked Great for me..... it really did help! pop it right before you get on the plane and you should be just fine! It might make you a little sleepy which is good! It will help the flight pass fast for you...... and you should know how it will effect you right away.... its not something that needs to be in your system for days or weeks..... just pop it and go! Hope ya feel better and have a great trip!
