Hi ladies i had my midwife appointment today and got some gd and bad news :(
my iron levels are only 9.9 which is terrible, as they are ment to be in the 1400's atleast. mine arnt even close as i sed mine are only 9.9 lower than before, im now on iron meds to try and help get my levels bk up but i only have 2 weeks left till my due date! im bit gutted reallly as i was aving a waterbirth and still hoping to but my midwife sed to me this mornin that the way my iron levels are at the moment there will b no water birth! only if i can get my iron level closer to the right level before i go int laour, i will probs b able to av a waterbirth. but the good news in 1 way is the baby is now 3/5ths engaged. but to me its also bad as my iron is so low and if i was to go into labour tonite for example there is a gd chance i could hemoridge. sorry bout the spelling! so what do you all think? oppinions needed plz.
Sorry is there anything i could do apart from take my meds and how long do you think it will take for me to get my iron levels up with me being on my meds? im takin 20ml of ferrous fumarate a day. each 5ml contains 45mg elemntal iron (equivalent to 140mg ferrous fumarate). has any1 else had any problems like this?
when ever i am pregnant i always have to take extra iron pills cause of my iron level drop drastically i have to have 65 mg in combination with my prenatal also eating anything green raw is better broccoli salad veggies thing like that i hope everything goes great let me know if you have any other questions and good luck
yeah i agree with aly79 green veg is good for iron intake, just make sure you dont over cook them. i'm 36 weeks today and also i was told my iron levels were low (10.6) soo my GP gave me Ferrous Sulphate 200mg to take 3 times to take 3 times a day!!!!
Hi, I have also had blood tests back that indicate my iron levels are very low too at 10.7. My doc says I have to go and see her before I can have the meds though, but this is going to delay me getting on them. I did not know low iron could mean poblems at birth. What can happen if levels are too low at delivery
my midwife sed to me cos my iron level is only 9.9 that i wouldnt be able to av a waterbirth cos they wouldnt really be able to control my levels or know if somthing is wrong or how much blood id be loosing in the water. aslo she sed if my iron levels r still so low it could cause me to hemmoridge. sorry bout the spelling.
