Getting Ready... What All Do I Need?

by lamb18, Aug 08, 2008 05:20PM
Well ladies, after my trip to the hospital lastnight for my blood pressure being so high, I started to think to myself. "What if labor comes this fast and I don't have anything packed?" So, I am going to be packing mine and JayLynn's bags. I am just so afraid of forgetting stuff. As far as JayLynn's stuff goes, waht should I pack her? What will she need in the hospital? What will I need? Sorry... first timer here. LOL. Can you add and delete off my list please? Thanks a ton!

Diaper Bag:
- 3 outfits?
- pacifiers?
- onesies?
- blankets?

My Bag:
- 2 changes of clothes?
- toiletries/hygeine products?
- activity books/magazines?
- snacks?

Your baby will only need going-home clothes and a pacifier if you're going to use one (though the hospital will have them as well). The hospital will provide diapers, wipes, Johnson & Johnson body/hair wash, formula, etc. You even get to take the leftovers home! I always asked for extras before I left (heck, I'm PAYING for it!). So don't worry about the diap. bag.

I know that some hospitals give you the small things for a diaper bag while you and baby are there, so I agree with Joy that you only need an outfit for going home, unless you plan to take pictures, then you need a picture outfit.

Oh, and as for your bag... your list looks good. You won't need much beyond toiletries and your clothes. Don't forget your camera! I kept our camera in my purse those last weeks "just in case".

Here is my list of items in my hospital and baby bag, I thought it might help with your packing!

My Bag

Hygiene bag(includes) q-tips, toothbrush, tooth paste, lotion, deoderant, shampoo, conditioner, mouth wash, floss, contact solution for eye contacts, travel razor incase Im not shavin when I give birth, so I can shave afterwards lol and sanitary pads as I hate the pads the hospital gives you.

Clothes(includes) 2 outfits, 2 pairs of undies, nursing bra, socks, hair ties, slippers, Robe, sweater, extra pillow, extra bath towels as the hospital towel hardly cover my rear lol. Hard candy(jolly ranchers) snacks for the DH, drinks for DH, bag of change for vending machine, my Nintendo DS, Ipod, magazines, camera. I dont plan on having a long delivery as my youngest son was only a 2 hr process from time in the hospital to having him in my arms.

Baby bag(includes) 2 Outfits(one warm one cold weather) Thin blanket, thick blanket, pacifier, socks, hand mittens, hats.

Hope this helps!

OH! And don't forget to have your carseat installed if you need to install it. It is a good idea to take it to your local fire department a few weeks before your due.

GoodLuck!
