I have been induced but not w/ my first.  I have 5 kids but have only been induced once and that was my choice.  I wanted to make sure it was my doc there to deliver the baby.  They will ask you your life history and give you an IV.  That is for the drug (Pottosin sp??) that will make you start contracting.  They will monitor you and the baby to make sure the baby isn't in any distress.  They would do that whether inducing or not.  They will give you pain meds if you choose.  As far as the time frame, it varies from woman to woman.  It normally takes longer for your first since your body has never done this before.  But like I said, that varies from woman to woman.  Someone else may come behind me and say that was not the case for them.  But normally the first one takes longer than any future children.  Good luck and Congrats!!!

yes, that is what they say.  However, I am one that will have to say that this was not the case for me.  I was induced with my first using pitocin to start contractions, and labor took 7 hours.  With my 2nd, I was so excited to think that it would only be a few hours, and it ended up taking 8 hours which still isn't bad.  Good Luck and congrats!!

With my first I had to get induced and I was only in labor for 8 hours. However, I had a friend who was induced and she was in labor for about 36 hours. It really just depends on the person. The one good thing about it though is that as soon as you feel a real contraction you can call for pain meds. :)

I was induced at 41 weeks.  My guy didn't want to come out.  They started me off with a pill called serbadil (don't know spelling), that they insert into your cervix.  This softens the cervix first.  There is no point in giving pitosin if the cervix isn't fully effaced.  They were supposed to give me two pills 3 hours apart and then give me pitosin, but as soon as they inserted the first pill I started having major contractions.  I didn't need anything else because I went into active labor so fast.  I was in labor for 7 hours and my stupid epidural didn't even work.  I was numb on only one side.  My water broke on it's own.  Sometimes when you are induced the doctor has to break your water.  The pitosin strengthens the contractions.  Good luck to you.
