Glass of wine on New Years?

Glass of wine on New Years?

I'm curious... who is drinking a glass of wine tonight? I have heard that one or two drinks (total) throughout your pregnancy will not harm the baby. I will probably have one glass tonight and one glass on my 21st birthday and that is all.

I have never heard the 2 drink theory. I personally would stay clear of any alcohol during pregnancy. You can never be too sure. I would do all that I could to prevent that "what ifs" - Have sparkling cider instead. I know its not the same but you'll be glad you chose that in the end.

How far along are you? If you are in your first trimester, I absolutely would not risk it...it's just not worth it! I think later in your pregnancy, many doctors say one glass is fine- I love the cider too, maybe stick with that!

My oldest is 14 and from the time I was pregnant with him, I had always heard that a wine cooler every now and again was fine to help you relax. I'm not too sure how true to fact that is. I don't drink so I've never really discussed it with my Dr. Maybe just have a sip or two if you absolutely must have one to ring in the New Year.

I would never drink while pregnant. My mom did with my brother and he ended up with spinal bifidia and ADD and ADHD. I have no idea if this is a result in the drinking. But I would never risk it. I am having a glass of that sparkling drink with my little boys and my neices and nephews.

No alcohol consumption is safe during pregnancy. The reason doctors tell women that is because a lot of women freak out because they drank in early pregnancy. It is to ease their guilty minds. Anything you drink gets passed to your baby.

Would you put alcohol in a baby bottle and give it to your infant? If not, then don't drink.

I was just wondering because I heard it was ok. I'm 12 weeks. And I guess I won't be drinking tonight just to be safe since its the 1st trimester still... but I can't imagine one glass of wine would cause any damage in the baby's development. It doesn't help anything either.

*headed to the store for some sparling cider* haha

I have heard recently on the news about this doctor (not sure where from....europe maybe) well anyway that a glass of red wine every now and then during pregnancy is actually ok and showing to possibly be benificial to the baby. The red wine is supposed benifit some sort of brain development...something in it. But your still in your first trimester which is the most important so I don't know what to tell you. Except ask your doctor...wish I would have paid more attention to the news that day.

Good for you, wild.blue! Why risk it if it MIGHT pose a risk?! I've heard that, too, wannabamommy, but I still wouldn't risk it. I don't drink anyway, so SHRUG! I just couldn't imagine giving my child a sip or drink of wine, so why would I pass that through the placenta?
